Okay, my response was brusque and glib.

At 20, I was enjoying a new marriage. Honeymooning at campgrounds. Doing the blue-collar thing at a local plant. Dining and drinking with the fiancee-then-wife and our friends. Enduring the nosiness of parents and doing the social obligations with them. Buying new furniture.

And trading the blue-collar life for the Marines. Seriously, I turned 21 in boot camp. Not good timing.

Upper Heyford USAFB. Drinking with Rob and Jack at The Barley Mow on most weekdays. Banbury parties on the weekend with Sandra- oh you look at me that way- what way- with those eyes. Waking up in the girls dorm and having to sneak out- again. Pak Fooks in Oxford with Mary contrary. Kissing girls at midnight on Trafalgar square new years. AC DC back in black at the Hammersmith Odegon. Floyd built a wall at Earls Court. Rick Wakeman at the Penultimate. The whisper of nurses uniforms against white stockings. Christeen couldn't wait. Barbra and me couldn't dance without tripping over a bed. So many good bad girls when I was so bad at being good. I hope they all forgive me. I never meant any harm but my heart was broken and I drank them all in like a drunk to forget. I hope they remember me with the fondness I do them.

Like you, Riot87, it seems like FOR-EV-ER ago that I was 20. But it was only 7 years ago. I'm having a hard time remembering exactly where I was and what I was doing. I was living in Atlanta, GA and working in a very prolific salon as a personal assistant. I pretty much did nothing but work and kind of regret not staying down there for a little while once I left the salon just to see how things were when I could enjoy life. I ended up back in my home state and went back to work in the beauty school that I had attended before moving to the South. Currently I'm back in my home town in Northwest Michigan. I work in a factory, own a home and love nothing more than to spend time with my dogs. :) A lot has changed but I'm glad I'm where I'm at!

That was 1991 for me. Had dropped out of high school the year prior. I was working a dead-end job, had long hair, partied every day, had a great girlfriend who I didn't pay attention to like I should have. Zero ambition, zero aspirations. Zero. Life. Goals.

Great times when you're 20, but not a recipe for success.

Changed things around when I turned 21, and life sort of fell into place in all the right places for me. Almost like it was waiting for me to wise up. Never looked back.
