Anyone seen DiO'Bolic?

or

:bat: Lily?
Been reading but not posting. Piss a lot less people off that way. ;)

Also been busy with reviewing literature from colleges that are recruiting my 17-year-old daughter. Probably have gotten over a hundred in the last two weeks. Received recruitment letters from University of Penn, Cornell, and Yale this week. Yale says my out of pocket cost would only be 1% to 10% of tuition, which is rather appealing. She just started her senior year in high school and is a whiz at Math and English (even been published). Always wanted someone in the family to go to Penn State, but I guess sending her there would be rather selfish of me just to get better football tickets.

A little side note... The College of the Atlantic out of Maine has been heavily requiting her, and I get something about twice a week from them. They even are willing to provide an all expense paid trip for the family to visit the campus. The University of Maine is also requiting her, which she had shown some interest until I asked her how she felt about Maine in the wintertime. I almost felt like taking the CoA up on it and visiting UoM in the process, and then visiting Bangor for some sightseeing. But that damn little thing called conscience got the better of me and felt it was unfair to take advantage of the offer when there is almost zero interest in going there. I mean, really, what does Maine have to offer, except for a pretty decent author who graduated from the University of Maine?

She wants to do as little as possible and get paid lots of money for it. So, as for now she’s looking to become a post-secondary professor in either English or Math (or maybe a horror author as she does have a dark side :)). She hoping to go to college where the liberals rule, and she can get away from us crazy conservatives... so New England universities appeal to her... one’s that will pay for a master’s program while tutoring, then hire her and also pay for a PHD.

You didn't piss me off, and the ones you did, should just get over it.
Ya'd think, but I do have a way of bringing out the worst in some, and not really what I want to do here. I really have enjoyed just reading the posts though.

I want to know what your daughter is going to decide myself.
I thinks she'll just let me decide for her. That way she has someone to blame other than herself if the choice isn't as rosy as she imagined. :)

Cornell sounds like a good fit--course--its freezin' buns in the winter.
Unfortunately it came from the Cornell School of Labor and Industrial Relations whom were interested in her because of her high math scores in the SAT & ACT, and her 4.17 GPA (how does one get higher than a 4.0?). That one already went in the trash... have to draw the line somewhere. I wouldn't put a penny towards that education. And it's freezin' in the winter.

Tonight I'm going through letters she received today from Ohio State, Arcadia U, Occidental, Mary Baldwin, Rensselaer, Wilkes, Saint Joseph's, Tulane, Franklin & Marshal, and University of New England. I like F&M, but I don't think they have a program she would be all that interested in.

What an awesome daughter you have. Wishing her the best in her future. May you be guided to pick the "just right" college/university for her.

Thank you. Wish she had more confidence in herself though.

It's all so overwhelming right now. They all seem to be waiving fees associated with the applications and some have guaranteed admission. But none have guaranteed any scholarships, just ranges, and you have to apply first to get any firm offers. Even though Yale stated her tuition would cost us only between 1% - 10%... room, board, and books are over $20,000 a year.

And it's still baseball season, football season is starting, and I'm being pressured to coach again for my younger daughter's fall softball team.

I would like to apply to only a handful of colleges, but what if you miss out on a full scholarship at a decent college you discount in the application process? My daughter did tell me tonight that she wants to go to a college that has a study abroad program, so that at least narrows down the selection process a bit.

Tulane is too hot, muggy, muggy; ask Lepplady.

So how about the University of Iowa with their two year residency for writers?
