Really would like to pick one within 300 miles from home. That way I could do a round trip in one day if necessary.Tulane is too hot, muggy, muggy; ask Lepplady.

Don't remember getting anything from UoI. I think she might be leaning more towards a degree in Math right now, with a minor in English. I read Pennsylvania only graduates 1,392 students with Math degrees per year. Looks like there might be a greater need in the job market for that than English. So how about the University of Iowa with their two year residency for writers?
You had mentioned that she had already published something of hers that's why I suggested Iowa.Don't remember getting anything from UoI. I understand, and I wish it would be. But she doesn’t handle rejection well. Because of a couple rejections she hasn’t written anything in many months, and now feels her efforts aren’t up to the task. I’ve even offered to pay her to write a short story over the summer with a story line that I envisioned would interest her. No go! From an early age all her teachers in the advanced English classes have asked to get a signed copy of her first novel, because of the talents she exhibited in writing. Sadly, I see a talent going to waste because of a lack in self-confidence. Hopefully one day that will all change. Right now she feels if she pursues a career in English, she would like to teach it internationally for students of US diplomats. For awhile anyway. And she does have a knack in tutoring. You had mentioned that she had already published something of hers that's why I suggested Iowa.
Have her watch the TED talk that SusanNorton posted in the TED Talks thread. It's very inspiring and speaks to this very issue! of being afraid of rejection in writing, of not being good enough -- the talk is given by the author of Eat, Pray, Love. Worth a watch.I understand, and I wish it would be. But she doesn’t handle rejection well. Thank you Spidey, this is fantastic news!Update on our PITH: heard from him today. The dog hot cart is up and running. It has been such a long and hard journey for him. He wants to thank everyone for all their positive thoughts and just being there for him. Fingers crossed it stays up and running and there are no more issues.
As PITH says: peace, love and care.
Yes - my girl is finally back home from being about 6 hours away for the past 4 years, I don't think I would have done very well if it had been longer. Your daughter sounds brilliant - good luck to her on her journey.Really would like to pick one within 300 miles from home. That way I could do a round trip in one day if necessary.
I've been thinking of her too. (((Staro))) hoping you're well and having the best of times.Thank you Spidey, this is fantastic news!
I would just like to throw out another message for staropeace--I have P.M'd her and no word at all.
I am so very worried about our girl.
Thank you....Re Staropeace- no contact here either. I have an address and am going to write her a snail mail card today. Holding in prayers. Am really worried, as no contact from Becky-- usually before, Becky would update us.
...heard from them after the KON, but nothing since....not unusual with their multiple obligations....yes - I was wondering about this myself - they were such a lovely couple and we enjoyed talking with them - I hope everything is okay??
Thanks. She'll be the second. My oldest graduated from IUP which was 6 hours away also. I worried a little but looked at it more as a great adventure and journey for her.Yes - my girl is finally back home from being about 6 hours away for the past 4 years, I don't think I would have done very well if it had been longer. Is she your first to go to college? If so, I'm just going to warn you, prepare yourself for your wife's grief. I cried all the way home and another 2 or 3 days. It was probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do - leaving her there like that.
And I agree with OoO - most money wins - unless it's too far from home.
