So what I'm getting from this is:

Googling things in the picture is cool.

Using the picture itself is a no-no.

I thought any internet assistance at all was banned, but hey, googling things in the image itself is fine with me.
I think it would be unreasonable to restrict any help other than what the image itself shows since many an image is obscure except perhaps to the member posting it. The game would get nowhere fast.

Personally, I try to guess by myself with no internet help. I let those who know it, guess it. It isn't important to me to "win." If the picture goes a long time with multiple hints, then I will start googling actors and actresses I recognize.
My assumption is that this is also many players' approach, while others ask for hints which can come in the form of additional images and/or quotes or other suggestions.

So, googling things within pictures is allowed, but discouraged unless significant time has past to no avail ?
(I apologize for assuming the duty of Games Police) Imho, there should be no strict rules against googling aside from that of googling the actual image.

Imho, all rules for any game should be stated clearly at the initiation of the game thread. Unfortunately, most of the time on any message board, since most members aren't professional game starters, this isn't the case. For the longest time in this game we've acted under the assumption that in order to successfully guess a submission's solution we can google actors, scenery, anything which might help us, but not the image itself. It's possible to use a copy of the image to find out which movie it's from. This habit has been considered "cheating".

As soon as we allow the above habit this game is no longer a game but a silly pretense, less useful than tossing a ball back and forth.
You can Google a picture? I'm so freaking computer illiterate I wouldn't even know how to do this!

Haha, yes ,sir! Depending on what browser you use, but if you use Google Chrome, when you right click on the image, a menu pops up and then you can select 'Search Google for this Image' and it leads you to search results of the image on Google! :)

The only time I've ever used IMDB is when I simply can't remember the name of the movie and then have to look up the actor. I've only done it twice so far since starting this game. Like someone said- it's no fun if ya have to cheat.
That's not cheating, because that can't be considered an unreasonable or unfair attempt to solve the puzzle, especially when players often try to post ringers as if there's a winner or a prize in store.
