Anyone remember this guy? Bowie's recent death reminded me of the excellent vampire movie "The Hunger" that he starred in based on a book by Strieber. He also wrote "The Wolfen" which was made into an interesting movie with Albert Finney. I looked him up and was amazed that he is both still alive and apparently went off the deep end about UFOs. Claims he was abducted and is visited by aliens or some such nonsense. Very strange.

I have read all of his early books- The Wolfen, The Hunger, Black Magic, The Night Church. I haven't read any of his UFO encounter novels. I did read War Day, which is a post apocalyptic novel. I think there is a sequel to it? IMHO The Hunger is his best book.

Just re-reading The Hunger and it's a pretty good book in the 80s kind of way. Anyone looking for a vampire type novel should give it a try. I gather WS managed to write a sequel between being abducted by aliens.

Finished my Harlan Ellison collection. Now onto...

...Anathem, by Neal Stephenson. About fifty pages in and I'm not certain I'm prepared for the effort necessary to finish this book.

I like Stephenson, loved Snow Crash and especially Cryptonomicon, just not sure I'm in the right mood to tackle this, but couldn't settle on a different book to read.

I got around to reading "The Wolfen." Having seen the movie many years ago - which is pretty good in a quirky 80s way - starring a grumpy looking Albert Finney, I was surprised that the book had almost nothing in common with the movie. If King thinks they did a number on The Shining when it was made into a film, he should take a look at what Hollywood did with this one. The book is a decent read but almost an entirely different story from the movie.
