Okay. Before all of you old timers roll your eyes at me and sigh loudly that this thread has been done a million times and you're sick of it please play along
I've been enjoying these boards for the past several weeks now and everyone seems like good people. I like to know a little about who I'm talking to.
My name is Lori and I live in Maine, born and raised. Joined the Air Force after high school, went to Germany for four years and then to New Mexico where I was honorably discharged and ended up living until 2 1/2 years ago. I am a dental assistant working at a VA clinic, also the job I did in the AF. Oh what the hell, I'm 41 years old ;-D and I have a 16 year old 6 pound poodle.
Hobbies include:horror conventions and collectibles, craft beers, never growing up, eating whoopie pies, these boards when I'm in between patients or not sharpening dental tools of doom, my awesome friends, and generally making the most of the short time we get here.
Favorite SK book: IT
First SK book read: Creepshow
Sentimental SK Fave: Night Shift
Hope I didn't bore anyone! Have a great weekend!

I'll play- I'm Katrina. I'm a veterinarian that currently works in a beef slaughter plant ensuring the safety of your food. So, it's kinda like a horror show every day at work with all the blood and guts and dismembered cows (though humane handling is a huge part of my job)... :) I also teach an online college course. Born and raised in Kansas, though I spent a year living in Phoenix doing an internship right after vet school. No human kids yet, but I have 2 dogs (see my pic), 4 rats, 3 mice, a snake, two species of geckos and a colony of roaches to feed the geckos.
Favorite SK book: Tough one, probably Eyes of the Dragon
First SK book read: I honestly don't remember, I think it may have been Wizard and Glass that I checked out from the high school library.
Sentimental SK Fave: Another toughie, I'll go with Wizard and Glass.

Hi Lori...I enjoy the threads you start. Keep up the good work. I also like your avatar. My name is Walt, I am a self-employed carpenter from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, have been self-employed for over 25 years now, my old man was a carpenter and we didn't get along. Heh! Sometimes. I am married, my wife and I just celebrated our...18th wedding anniversary. We've no kids though we have been trying like hail to have some. God has not blessed our lives with children...so...
I am a veteran...anyone who has served is a veteran...Cold War, me. Navy. College, University of Florida, B.A. English, 1987. Most of my family is gone...parents, two younger brothers who died much too young...the dynasty ends with me, alas. I have crooked teeth. Dental assistants must fret when I walk through the door...although Suzy seems to take it all in stride, pics my teeth and gives me a tooth brush, floss. Have had dogs as pets...one turtle, couple cats, bugs, snakes...no pets now...my heart can't take it anymore. They live such short happy lives. I'm also a superhero! Just local, though, not national or anything like that.

My descendants once removed call me Grandpa, hence the name. I live in a lovely small city in Colorado, and it's captured our soul. I've lived from the central U.S. to the West Coast to overseas and back to the Rocky Mountains, and I like it here best.

I like to hang out with family.
And be my myself.
Work out, both aerobics and weights.
Motorcycle, although a leg injury (unrelated to motorcycling) has kept me from a bike these last couple years.
Travel, whether by air or car.
Writing. I got a blog.
Photography. Like the writing, it's for self-fulfillment rather than any commercial endeavor.
Political and religious philosophies: Fact-based nondenominational.

First SK book read: I can't remember. Might've been The Stand, which I enjoyed tremendously whether it was the first or not. I remember that in the early days of reading SK books, it was generally with a little hesitation, because I seemed to like every other one. Don't get me wrong - I always enjoyed the writing. I didn't always enjoy the story. (If that gets me kicked off the forum for heresy, so be it.)
Favorite SK book: The Dead Zone.
Sentimental favorite: On Writing.

Ghost, 17 years in Law Enforcement, most of those years in the intelligence division. Married for 19 years with a ten year old son who is much cooler than I can ever hope to be. Married to a lady I couldn't tie my shoes without. I curse too much and have a weakness for Irish whiskey, but only when I'm out with the guys.....the cursing I mean, not the whiskey...or maybe both......lifelong Stephen King fan. There's a lot of cool people on this board, enjoy the company....now where'd GNT go?....I bet he took the cookies.......

Finally, a moment to elaborate. My boss kept trying to make me work all day - sheesh.
I am 45 - married 23 years, we have a 23 year old daughter (yes, that's why we got married), 13 year old son, and 11 year old daughter. My husband is a handsome and mostly cranky man, but I still get giddy at the end of the day waiting to see him. We survive on constant chaos with brief moments of serenity. I like wine, beer, and bubble baths. I like to workout - I aim for 4 days a week, most of the time I make it. I'm Catholic. I work more than full time, but most of the time I love my job.

My first Stephen King read was The Stand in 1987, then It, then Pet Semetary, Thinner, and I just didn't stop. I'm way behind in my reading. But I pretty much always have a King book underway. Right now I'm reading Wind Through the Keyhole. I read 2 or 3 books at a time - one upstairs for reading in bed, one for downstairs, usually one in the car for in between moments - waiting for the things to end or begin. I have been here on SKMB for a little over a year and it feels like home. Keep posting, I enjoy your posts!
