Hi - Although I've been aware of him for a long time I've been an avid King fan for about 10 years when someone lent me first three Dark Tower books - after that I had to read as much of everything else as I could to get an idea of the big picture.
I still need to do The Dark Half, Insomnia & The Stand (shameful, I know).
I'm also enjoying discovering into some of King's influences like Lovecraft, Blackwood, M.R. James and Machen.
I love discussing books after reading them but nobody I know likes the kind of books I do so have joined up here, having recently finished Revival and wanting to find somewhere to talk about it!
Favourite King book? Probably "IT" - tried reading it when I was a teenager in the 80s but ended up putting it back on my dad's bookcase as it was too scary for me (wouldn't go into the bathroom for a week after getting as far as the bit with Beverley's sink) but read it again in full and loved it!
Favourite thing about King's writing? The foreshadowing and sense of impending doom - he lets you know pretty early on not to expect a completely happy and satisfactory ending but skimps on the details - so it's finding out which characters are going to make it to the end completely intact that's the fun part. I also like the way he can introduce a large ensemble of character and give them all breathing space to develop.
