Hello! I'm from Russia. Today I read in the newspaper that the role of Roland will play by actor Idris Elba.
In accordance with the nature of the content of the book Roland - the man with white skin. Question: author Stephen King is indifferent to the film, which will be released on the screen or information in the newspaper is a joke?
The theme of the hero Roland is inspired by the poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came." The poem was written in 1855, and the main character is a titled knight. It was six years before African-Americans were freed from slavery. Why dark-skinned actor will play white-skinned man role?
And let's not forget about the accident June 19, 1999.Personal pain Roland handed the book to the author. So technically the author and Roland - a single unit.
I read the books written by Stephen King for 20 years.
I hope that the film adaptation of Stephen King's novel does not make a mistake by giving a central role to the wrong person.

The answer to your question is actually pretty simple. Think of Hollywood (and by that title I simply refer to the process of films in general) as a machine that makes hot dogs. You can take the finest cuts of meat in the world or the worst parts of the animal and what comes out the other side will still just taste like hot dogs. It makes no difference. A better question one might ask is why would someone bother throwing the finest cuts of meat into such a machine and waste it on hot dogs. I ask that all the time. It sounds pretty stupid, but they do it so often there must be a reason for it. I'll let you know if I ever figure it out.

I can not speak English. But I know the history of the movie "Back to the Future". Michael Dzh.Foksa initially played by Eric Stoltz.Replacement of the main character, the company lost $ 38 million. And the movie with Michael J. Fox was the best. Was the success of the movie with a good actor Stolz - question?.. As we say in Russia - a each mouse - has its own burrov.. Sorry if the film would lose the charm of the book

I'm sure that I'm on the forum Stephen King? And if you need vodka, could be better, you will bring to Russia a little bit of American democracy? So kilograms of five to seven... I understand that we speak different languages. But that is no reason to talk about me in the third person. I am interested in the book and the film based on this book. Maybe sit here Alcoholics Anonymous? ))) Or you have already come to terms with the dark man, and you have nothing to say?.. I enjoy reading Stephen King. I do not believe that his readers - people with low intelligence. you need a vodka? You can buy it at the bookstore)))

First, welcome to the Board--I hope you stay for many discussions.
I think there is a breakdown with the translations, though. The posters above were trying to make jokes, not at you but with you so I hope you will not be offended where no offense was intended.

I've moved your post to the movies thread for The Dark Tower and there are many other posts already discussing the news that has been released about The Dark Tower.

Sorry, Lubov I was trying to be funny and see that I failed miserably. No hard feelings I hope. I don't know how close you are to Mr. Putin, but let's just keep this between ourselves, okay? ;)

As our good Ms Mod said, I believe some of our posters were making attempts at humor without thinking about how poorly it might translate. You will find the majority of people here fairly intelligent. I am the exception which proves the rule. I just make grade. I am kind of envious of you, because I've always wondered what it would be like to read some of King's stuff in another language. Clearly he translates well as he has fans the world over.
