@ Lubov,
There are many discussions about the Dark Tower movie. Many do not want to see any changes from the books. Most of those people are the ones who have read the books. Those that have not will not understand how much the books are a part of our lives.
Our Ms Mod- has an excellent way to look at the changes-- the movie takes place on a different level of Tower , so everything changes.
Movie makers make movies to sell tickets. I think SK does not have full control of how the movie writers will write the story, or who will be picked to be the actors. We must remember, the movie is an adaption and based on the book.

ad·ap·ta·tion
ˌadapˈtāSH(ə)n/
noun
  1. the action or process of adapting or being adapted.

base something on something to use something as a model for a movie, piece of writing, or work of art
synonyms:alteration, modification, redesign, remodeling, revamping, reworking, reconstruction, conversion

Please read the discussion and please ask questions.

Welcome to SKMB .. hope you like it here.
To me, the DT series is a masterpiece. And no movie could EVER work its magic as SK has. I do intend on seeing the movie.
I will watch it with an open mind.. although it may be impossible. With Idris and Matthew in the cast, it should be a great movie on its own.
Hopefully, it will invite more people to explore SK's Universe. I have read somewhere tho , that in SK's mind, he always pictured Roland as Clint Eastwood.
And I dare say, he must have... because as I read I also pictured Clint Eastwood as Roland in my mind. Since Clint Eastwood is too old now.. who could
play Roland so perfectly? Idris is a great actor.. but he doesn't look like Roland to me.. lol oh well.. I will still enjoy the movie.

In a world that has "moved on," Clint Eastwood is still young and he will undoubtedly play Roland. Peter Jackson will direct the cinema version, and the film will win 12 Oscars. Steve King will win for best screenplay, and Adele will sing the title song.

Hello! I'm from Russia. Today I read in the newspaper that the role of Roland will play by actor Idris Elba.
In accordance with the nature of the content of the book Roland - the man with white skin. Question: author Stephen King is indifferent to the film, which will be released on the screen or information in the newspaper is a joke?
The theme of the hero Roland is inspired by the poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came." The poem was written in 1855, and the main character is a titled knight. It was six years before African-Americans were freed from slavery. Why dark-skinned actor will play white-skinned man role?
And let's not forget about the accident June 19, 1999.Personal pain Roland handed the book to the author. So technically the author and Roland - a single unit.

I read the books written by Stephen King for 20 years.
I hope that the film adaptation of Stephen King's novel does not make a mistake by giving a central role to the wrong person.
I read an article(The Dark Tower's Producer Has A Blunt Message For Those Who Don't Like Idris Elba - CINEMABLEND), for what it's worth, which suggests that Stephen King has no problem with Idris Elba as Roland. I personally feel that the essential Dark Tower story doesn't depend on a "white" Roland, and that any technical and/or historical discrepancies will be overlooked by most moviegoers. I feel that a successful movie requires among other things good acting, and apparently Elba meets that primary need. Meanwhile, I actually cannot think of a better choice for Roland.
