Since I couldn't pour beer out of a boot if the instructions were printed on the heel, I read and read and read some more and finally put two and two together and wondered if Mr. King had a website...I was thrilled to find a forum and was even more thrilled to find out there was a nice section for off topic postings. While I enjoy forums that stick to the topic, it's great fun for me to "get to know" the people behind the screen names and post funny or silly things, just for the heck of it.

With most people or most places, if I quote or mention something from an SK novel, I get weird looks as though I have 6 eyeballs. Very few people have the patience to read big, thick books and discuss them in depth. Doing so, for me, is like leaving a smoggy city and taking a big breath of fresh mountain air.

Plus, that "I'm jealous of the big threads here" thread that's about 800 pages long is just so dang funny. Re-reading some of it makes me laugh until my sides ache!

tell me about it. i read It in fifth grade, and i think the Stand not long after. sometimes it's so difficult finding people on that level. i've got a friend who i told to read nightmares and dreamscapes cause the stories are short in an effort to get her more into king, but when it comes to knowing people who not only read 1000 page books but totally blast right through them, as they say, the struggle is real. of course, i'm also like that with star trek, because i've read quite a few of the books they've put out to supplement the shows (wouldn't really consider myself a trekkie, but i know more than your average person). star trek has a very rich universe, especially once you factor in the hundreds of available books, quite a few of which have built off of things introduced in the various shows, either through back story the shows never gave or by continuing the adventures of the various characters. i feel like the best i've done among friends i know in person is a few harry potters fanatics, which is not terrible, because i enjoy harry potter as well, but i definitely need more book nerds in my life.

Since the beginning of time - or internet - or this message board, I've found myself visiting this website almost daily.

I just keep forgetting to log in... a case of amnesia I've suffered from for the last 10 years, and two days.

As for the "why", I think most of them were already mentioned in this thread.
