I think the original post was meant to discuss the objectifying of women, maybe?

I`m not quite sure what that means...
Is that looking at a woman as an object, not a person?
That would be offensive, yes, but isn`t this contest going on for like a million years?

Dunno, they can crown me as Mister Canada and look at me as an object all they want, I wouldn`t complain...:)

Never watched a beauty pageant on TV for more than 10 minutes, and I'm of the age when the winner used to make headlines. Seriously. I mean, it was an Event.

I suspect there will always be a market for displaying sexual attractiveness. In fact, that's why I wear Axe and drink Bud Lite, because then the nubile young ladies cluster.

I don't wear Axe, I don't drink Bud Lite, and I've never had a cluster of nubile young ladies... hey, maybe they're right!!

Does that really work?

Yes, I think so. Lots of people feel that beauty contests give young girls a misguided perception of what beauty is.....you know, certain size, body type, lots of make up, etc.
It has been going on for many years.

I cannot even fathom being a teenage girl right now. They are assaulted at every turn by what they "should" look like,Tv,magazines, ads that are everywhere. And all the "grooming" techniques that ALOT of woman have adapted to just kill me.
I think if we all ask ask ourselves why there is no Mister America comp. we will eventually circle around to seeing why the Miss America Pageant is an outdated idea which should either be retired or revamped.

From a few commercials I've seen, it apparently does. Maybe I should've been in a commercial when I was younger.

So getting back to objectification - wait, heck, I think commercials like this are Exhibit A in "objectifying." I think there will always be a market for that. I mean, Grandma and I don't judge people by appearance. And yet, she can swoon over Chris Hemsworth walking around in his godly quarters in Thor, and I can slowly exhale while watching Charlize Theron in... well, just about anything, except I haven't seen Monster. So while we don't believe in judging on looks, still the reality of sexual attractiveness is there.

I'm just musing now and am ready to be slapped down for it. But I suspect that the lowering of television popularity of such pageants has every bit as much to do with sights of female flesh more readily available, and more revealing, in other media than what one will see in those relatively modest shows, and not so much society's turning away from objectification.

I wish I had that. I'd sell it and buy 7 more Ford Focus Wagons! (And bank what's left over) I can get 3 coffee tables in the back of this thing!

The GOAT is pretty. But for what you'd pay for that, you could buy a 'Cuda body! Not 100%, but still twice the car.

Man. Majestic! Or I'd throw in a few extra $$ and spurge for a running 1971 AMC Matador.

Jezus! What a land yacht! But as classics go, nothing beats my old Plymouth Reliant wagon. Handed down from my mom. Virtually indestructible. And I tried.

I went to one this past weekend. Saw some really nice old rides out there. There was a 32 Ford Deuce Coupe that I'd give my left testicle for. I don't need it, I'm done having kids.
