I'm religious...which means I wouldn't have trusted any visionary dreams and would have probably struck out on my own. Not to say I wouldn't want other people, but I'm most like Stu. He was looking for people, but not a society. I'd want a small group, in the middle of nowhere. Or no one at all; that's good, too.

If you are religious, why would you not have trusted visionary dreams?
About to go to bed, but very briefly...

God spoke directly to prophets in ancient times, and to some in dreams, but that all stopped not long after Jesus' ascension. Basically, after the church was established there was no need for it. It's made pretty clear that the Bible is all of God's word we're going to get, and everything we need is in there. So to follow a dream to Nebraska, and then Boulder, would be to negate what I understand to be the truth.

Of course, this totally ignores the theme of existentialism that SK spun in this one (and has elaborated on ever since). The point is, different people see things differently, and I wouldn't see the near end of humanity as any reason to throw my life-long beliefs over the side in favor of something new. Neither did Mother Abigail or the Judge, if you'll recall.
