With the electronic age with kindle and everything, things change.

Generations there is always new things and yes, changes.

But will there ever be someone that has a style like Stephen King.

Granted I been busy getting things together and doing things to become successful in my own way and better my life, so I haven't really sat and read a book.

Today we are so busy, and it seems like the way of holding an actual "book" in your hand is dying out. More and more book stores are closing.

Yet I can understand with technology, those that don't want clutter, I get it.

I get the whole technology thing and things you should stay up to date.

i do understand about saving paper and saving trees but things can be "recycled".

I can honestly say, there is nothing better than holding a "book" in your hand.

You feel a little "piece" of warmth or a feeling an electronic device can not give to you.

Maybe I am just lame for saying this, but even though I have to use the computer for everything and yes even speaking with people, maybe sometimes it just feels nice to step away from "technology" and "decompress".

All those that are reading this right now, as I speak I got a kitten a few months kind of yelling at me, because he's hungry and that has to mean also--"Hey you get off the computer, attention now, I'm cute and hungry, meow meow".

It just seems like technology is good for alot of things, but sometimes with it I feel like we might be trading a little bit of our soul's for touch and feelings.

Look at the cell phones. Now I really understand texting is okay when your in a rush and if your in a place where you have to send a quick message and that is good.

The down side to texting: you text someone and they text you back, and then if you go to call them and they don't pick up the phone, and you know what their answer is, "I don't feel like talking". Yet they will text with you?

I know it might be a good way to get out of an argument, and that's also understandable, well maybe, but meaning where has our human connection gone, just to say "hi" and "how's your day"?

It is nicer to speak with someone instead of sitting with technology or a thing in my hand.

Ok so I don't have a car, but I got to tell you, I still tried to do a little bit of exploring in Maine, and I have been here for 4 years, but I would need a car to get to the mountains and such, but still tried to get to a few places.

I know I am getting older, but still with what I'm learning in technology and I get opportunities to get to places that I want to go, I am going to try.

I honestly don't know if a writer will ever keep a place in my heart like Stephen King has, even though I haven't read a good book lately, but I am not sure.

I think when life changes, maybe there are certain things that is part of your heart that will never change but it isn't anything bad, it is just something you enjoy, like a writer's work.

If I ever did meet Stephen King, I would give him a hug or shake his hand and say thank you for leaving an impression on me. Don't worry I won't bother him and go all Annie Wilkes on him, saying I'm his number one fan or anything, I know better from actually working a tiny bit on film sets and such and you just learn that people are people---and no I don't think I am some sort of big star or anything, it is just I am getting to do things in my life as I get older and I'm trying to cherish every moment I can.

I don't know, maybe I am just naive to think that good things should last forever and is it so wrong that I would say that about Stephen King?

I should be careful how I just wrote that last sent people might think I'm kissing butt, cause remember this is the internet and now a days people take everything the wrong way on the internet.

Anyway got to feed kitten and the older cat just came out to me so this crazy cat lady got to take care of her ninja kitty minions :)

The picture I posted was of the Lighthouse that is over near Fort Williams in Maine. It is one of the most photographed lighthouse's and painted lighthouse's known. I am glad I got to take pictures of it. :)

you make very good points, i feel the same. i suppose the last generation also felt the same in some way. with me its not so much books, but art, i admit i hate artwork created by a computer by so called artists. yes they produce very good images but its all done on a computer which i feel is cheating in a way, i do my art by hand, pen, paper, paint, i would rather make art on a canvas with the smell of the paints, and the texture of the surface, and the skill required to produce what is art. theres no other feeling that makes you feel so peaceful with yourself when your painting on a canvas with oil paint. but each to their own....

We have a self promotion area on the board if you care to share any of your art with us. Would love to see some.

I love books. I have yet to love e-books. But I LOVE stories, so I'll follow them regardless of mode of delivery. Just have to get used to the changes coming, that's all. One thing's for sure, no kindle or computer screen will ever smell like the spine of a seasoned book.
Yeah, especially one that has been around for a while. I collect antique radios and they have a unique smell when the tubes get warm and heat the cabinets.
I use the latest software and the net when I am writing, but don't think I will go the e-book route.5-18-14, 9.23 P.M. 2.jpg 7-8-14, 2.21 P.M.jpg

I'll read a good story in any format it comes in, but I won't spend money on something I can't physically hold. I always felt like this rise to digital technology is destructive to the economy. I always felt like, if a CD for example, cost $10, that money was going to alot of different people. The artist, the record company, the manufacturer, the distributor, the shipping company, the Store chains, the employees, etc etc. When you eliminate 3 or 4 people from that chain entirely yet keep the price the same, I'm not fooled, what you did was eliminate everybody who wasn't necessary and put them out of work to fatten your pocket, and knowing that, I feel 100% justified in stealing from you. I feel like everything digital should be half the price at least, then maybe I'd play ball. But that will never happen.

That's a misconception that a lot of people have. There are still a lot of layers behind the delivery of getting an ebook out to the public and when someone steals that work, they are also taking away a royalty from the author because royalties are based on sales.

I am very fond of Kindle. I am currently on my second read of the DT series all in paper. I do like the feel and smell of an actual book, but my Kindle is so handy. I think we are very lucky to live in a time when we have the choice.
I love my Kindle.
I majored in English Lit in college and have my high school teaching degree in English. I have read everything I could get my hands on since before kindergarten. I love books and reading. I write for a living. But... I still love my Kindle. There are so many functions to it that enhance my reading experience. Why there is such resistance to e-readers, I just cannot fathom. But, I respect those who are resistant to change and respect their right their opinion.

The lumberjack must cut many trees to produce the paper to produce a million copies sold on day one...not to mention the days that follow. Why do trees only matter when they stand alone, apart from the forest? Demand for the wood that comes from the tree keeps the price of housing up. The textbook industry makes its living by getting behind the idea that every new semester requires a new textbook...at bodacious prices...but they need to eat, too. They like steak, my guess. A kindle can store an incredible amount of stories...mine has over 200, probably over 300 by now...how many trees stand because of that?

I guess the thing I like about a printed book is its relative permanence. E-things are subject to disappear in a nanosecond. Even CD's and DVD's are projected to have a maximum life of 100 years, and only if they are of very high quality (not cheap materials, made in China, by slave labor, which means most of the stuff out there is doomed to a short life).

When I buy software I always pay more for an actual DVD, in case I have to reload it following the inevitable computer crash. I factor this in when pricing the software.

Forget about storing stuff on the "cloud". That is just on somebody's server somewhere. There have been cases where that company went out of business, and people lost everything.

If I am going to pay for something, I want to be able to physically carry it around. I will not pay to download anything. I understand the convenience, but I don't feel it is a good deal. It is a good deal for the seller, because they only have to have one copy feeding one or more server farms, so I feel the price should be much lower.

There is something about an old book that is reassuring. It has given happiness to many people through the years, and is well worth the renewable resource of trees used to make those millions of copies.:typing:

I agree with the enhancements the Kindle has. The dictionary function. It gets me to look up words I might not otherwise bother with. This in turn gets me to use them sometimes. I was resistant to E readers at first, but there was some SK stuff I couldn't get any other way. So, I have had a sea change.

Plus the fact that you can type in a word or phrase and find every mention of that word or phrase. I use this when a character is mentioned early on and then does not reappear until halfway through a book. I can never remember who they are. With the search function, it is so easy to refresh ones memory.

Not to mention if you have a paperwhite you can read in the dark.

Okay. You all have convinced me. I just got a new iPad Air, so maybe I'll see how that e-book thing works.
