I've bought, read and enjoyed "Fall of Giants", book one by Ken Follet, back in 2011. I kinda forgot that it was a trilogy and lost track of the books. I noticed there's book 3 coming out in September.

Is book 2, winter of the world, at the level of "Fall of Giants", (great writing, engaging storyline, accurate history)?

It is good but personnally i don't think is as good as the first. The second generation is not as captivating as the first. But it is well worth a read. The history is as wellresearched as the first. And the writing is also up to expectation. But is a worthy follow up. Didn't know the third was planned for this autumn. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll skip to the third. WW2 has been overdone and cold war is much more enthraling from a novel perspective.

Might be a bit confusing since a lot happens to the characters, And some new ones are introduced. Not so much in terms of warexperience but in the new bonds between different characters. Much of the action takes place outside the different battlestations. And probably many of the characters only play minor if any role in the third book. Have you read Herman Wouks Winds of War. Liked that one.

oh, darn... I'll probably will read it, then. But only if book 3 gets good reviews.

No, last WWII novel I've read was "Night Over Water" by Ken Follet. It's been a while, though.

I can recommend Wouk. Winds of war was written 1971 i think. Its follower War and Remembrance two years later. Have beat most of the rest ww2 novels i read including Follet. The books starts before the war and end soon after the war ends. That is if were talking about a book that covers the entire war. not just a part of it.

Ken Follet I read him, can't think of the books but one was eye of the needle made into a film with Donald Sutherland c1980. I have read fall of giants pretty good. I must read what Kurben reads(am impressed with your taste in books) The winds of war, if I recall it was a mini series with Robert Mitchum.
