Wouldn't a S.K scripted video game be amazing?

As a self diagnosed geek, I keep a broad interest in all activities which used to make it hard to get girls to kiss me in high school. One of those is video games.

I am sure not everyone here is game players but this might interest a few...

While true that a lot of video games are made with teenage boys in mind, portray women and different ethnicities poorly as well as being insanely violent, they are getting better.

Film and literature level qualities of game are being made. For example, I recently completed 'The Last of Us', an amazingly told epic focusing on a teenage girl and her unwilling protector in a post apocalyptic America. It had a gripping story line, diverse protoganists (including LBGT characters) and excellent acting. It also scared the living hoo ha out of me in places, plus had me weeping at the end like no ones business.

It got me thinking today that it Mr. King would be an excellent writer for a video game - particularly if he brought his trademark characterisation and plotting into it. I think an original story would be better rather than trying to shoehorn an existing story in.

Anyone agree?

Anyone played 'The Last of Us' and was also moved to tears at the end? Please don't leave me hanging...

My son and I both are Xbox-ers, but neither of us have played "The Last of Us" yet. I'm currently in the middle of "The Witcher 3:Wild Hunt" which is solid so far if you like Elder Scrolls-ish type RPG games. My son has been cracking out on Minecraft this summer so far.

I don't play video games BUT if there was a game based on SK's Rose Red, I would give it a try :) Could we choose which character we wanted to be?

WOW what a loaded question!

I don't know where to begin. I have to pry my fingers off the game controller whenever I play. But I am a call of duty/Grand theft junky. I find myself skipping over the stories to get to the game. Which annoyed the living heck out of my BF. Say "I don't care about there life story I want explosions and stuff blowing up!" But with that being said if SK wrote a game I may actually watch the story lines. I could not say for sure but I would at least try.

I'd prefer an adaption on an existing story though. I'd get to enjoy it in a different way. The Dark Tower could be amazing if done right. But honestly, I don't think King will have interest in it as it's an entirely different industry.
I guess it is but then Mr. King has worked in film, graphic novel, e books, t.v and even music (for pleasure). A DT game could work. Imagine an open world Gilead!

If it does happen I don't think King will play as great as a role in the conception of it. I won't mind that as long as those who make it are fans of the books. I'd want something big or nothing.

Yeah agreed - I think even a concept with the right development team would be awesome.

I like the idea of Cujo vs Zombies. Then again, what about the new Virtual Reality Headsets coming out - imagine a VR Carrie... tag line.. BE THE PROM QUEEN.

Virtual reality headsets scare me, I guess cause people who are disconnected from reality scare me. I don't guess it would be like living in a herion den but... :(

That would be amazing, I'm not sure if it be a whole game though, more of those 'experience pieces'. I think I'd get nauseous from a full game on the VR. It'll start with pig's blood falling on you and then you can control her and get to set fire
and destroy everything. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ I think occulus has a new touch controller prototype that lets you use hand gestures, it'll be fun.

Any one of his rooms too would be good as they'll have a lot of atmosphere. Autopsy Room, 1408, the Shining and Rose Red would be great to explore and get scared by.

My greatest fear is if they make a mobile game.

When I'm reading a good novel or watching a good movie, I disconnect from reality. For most people it'll be just a fun thing to do. But people with those kind of problems...well I guess there's always something to be addicted to.

Reading a really good book also helps me to disconnect from reality! :frog::encouragement:=D:star:

The rights for a Dark Tower game are part of the movie deal so unless they asked Steve to do something for it (and he agreed which I doubt would happen), that will be commissioned by the DT production company.
Yes that tends to happen I think with movie deals which is a shame because very often they are quick cash ins. Still, now I know!

I've definitely thought he should write a game, and I think it would be a great time to try it right now, with games becoming more and more like interactive stories. I think maybe he would do well working with Telltale Games on something, perhaps.

I've thought a Mid-World MMO might be cool, but it could be done wrong and hurt how people envision the DT stories.

If you haven't yet, be sure to play The Last Of Us - Left Behind DLC. It's a very cool, although somewhat short addition to the main story.
