Morning news says Yahoo has been hacked.
Question-- when I went to my yahoo email account today, the screen went yellowish( I can still see me emails in background) and a box came stating my name and requesting me to turn off all non secure apps.
Blue box on bottom: turn apps off
words to the side- no thanks, I understand the risks

Is this legit? And what are the "apps".

Hidey Spidey, Hmmm...I don't see anything on my newsfeeds. Just don't click anything until you find out more. Sometimes a restart will help or install the virus...check your 'run' and 'run once' in the registry and make sure nothing strange is sitting there waiting to run on a restart. If not, you could probably safely restart your computer and the glitch may go away. Good luck, mal.

Yahoo is expected to confirm massive data breach, impacting hundreds of millions of users - Recode. Spidey contact yahoo, change your password and then run a virus scan before you restart. I have yahoo mail and didn't see any of the things you did. Mine seems fine even though I just read about the data breach. Apparently yahoo thought we didn't need to know.

I closed out yahoo email. Went back in and no yellowish page with box. Just like a regular opening of email page. Will definitely change password.
Lady on news suggested password change immediately, as well as any other sites that you used that same password.
I think this bares further watching.

Hey, experts. That is a good question. What are nonsecure applications (apps)? Are those the ones without a green lock on them? I'm such a dinosaur with all this tech lingo. How do you turn them off? Do you show them pictures of bald, toothless hags?

Just my thoughts not only on e-mail hacking, but the chip reader in credit cards. Nothing is secure...I heard a news article that the chip reader is actually making it easer for your credit card to be stolen.
Ha ha. Not only do I already have one Wells Fargo account, ( one is enough;;D) my bank just announced that they are sending me a debit card with the new SAFE chip........Grr

This is what I do for buying things online (especially places where I have to keep a card on file) because I'm not comfortable sending bank account info out on the internet. Who knows if it is actually safer or not but it seems like a good idea to me.

I opened an American Express Bluebird account. This is a prepaid debit card but unlike most of these, there are no monthly fees. You can use it anywhere that accepts American Express. You can link a bank account to it to make deposits but I don't do that. You can make cash deposits at any Wal-Mart for free and that's what I do. I keep a certain amount of cash in this account and I do not have any other account liked to this account. I use this card for my online purchases and accounts where I need a card on file. My theory is that if this account gets hacked, there is a minimal amount of information tied to it.
