It's nice to see so much love for Hurt by Johnny Cash on here. I love his version; really powerful.
Have you seen the video? It's heartbreaking. And beautiful. And heartbreaking.

I cannot pick favorite songs. I can only pick "songs I love that come to mind right at this mo— oh look, a squirrel" songs. So, a few songs I love. (Also, I'm not an aggressive music consumer. I sort of absorb songs that float my way ... like an amoeba.)

"In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" - Avett Brothers
"Kid Fears" and "Love's Recovery" (and indeed the entire eponymous album) - Indigo Girls
"In Your Eyes" - Peter Gabriel
"Hallelujah" - Jeff Buckley
"Eleanor Rigby" - The Beatles
"Into My Arms" - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
"Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" - Neil Diamond
"You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" - Patty Loveless
"Say Hey" - Michael Franti
"Sweet Pea" - Amos Lee

Tons more, of course. Those just come to mind right this second.

I could squeeze you for mentioning Amos Lee! Usually when I mention him I get a blank stare. LOVE his music-Arms of a Woman would definitely go on my longer list, as would Soul Suckers.

I could include whole albums of Van--lol. He's a force of nature. I also didn't include and Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Ben Lee, KT Tunstall... *sigh* And then there's all the Motown, and Americana, and soul, and blues (ELMORE JAMES! STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN! JIMMIE VAUGHAN! Jonny Lang! Howlin' Wolf!)...
