This is totally supposed to be "Venus and Mars/RockShow/Jet" but "Too Many People" is a great song too!

McCartney is so underrated. Unpopular opinion: Lennon had, like, three good solo songs. And none of them were called Imagine.

Most of the Wings albums have been remastered and re released (after inexplicably being out of print for years) recently. All of these reissues have many extra tracks. Paul released many non album singles during this time and you can find them on these re releases. Venus and Mars was just released a month or so ago and the bonus cd is very good. Hit singles "Juniors Farm" and "Sally G" are on it as well as an awesome song called "soily" (there is a live version of this on the "Over America" album). In the past couple of years, Paul has reissued McCartney, Ram, Band On The Run, Venus and Mars, Wings Over America, McCartney II and At The Speed Of Sound (my least favorite Wings album). These reissues are awesome.

Yeah! I have the Band on the Run, Wings Over America, Ram, and McCartney remasters. Great stuff. I have Venus and Mars, Red Rose Speedway, McCartney II, Tug of War, Press to Play, Memory Almost Full, New, and Driving Rain, and Back to the Egg coming in the mail. I won Back to the Egg for $13.99 in an eBay auction! Was very happy because from what I can tell it's a hard-to-find album.

In college, I read (because I picked it up - it was not required reading) Anthony Burgess' "A Clockwork Orange." I thoroughly enjoyed it. Kept my mind at play. But I kept reading about Alex and his droogs and the Glorious Ninth. So I had to follow that up, and indeed it was glorious (the Second Movement, which is what I think the story intended). That was back in the '70s. I couldn't express why it was so glorious until the 21st Century and I saw the graphics on Youtube.

Take a look and listen if you'd like, and if you don't get a feel of the incredible diversity, layering, dynamics, and majesty of the music, we can still talk, but not about this piece.

Other things.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer, who taught me to like classical music. "Pictures at an Exhibit" album, "Blues Variation," which was not by Mussorgsky but I love it nonetheless. (Now as I listen to it, I realize it may seem somewhat pedestrian to others, but it was an Important Juncture in my life.)

Santana, Europa, but particularly on their "Viva Santana!" album. This is the live version from Osaka. Forget the studio version. This is a very, well, sexual song (to me), featuring incomparable guitar work, including a 60-second (I timed it) note sustain by Carlos, and I can listen to it anytime. Anytime.

"Jessica" by the Allman Brothers. Pure joy. We need joy in the midst of all this other angst that I'm projecting in the other selections.

"Hurt" by Trent Reznor, evoked through Johnny Cash. It must be an age thing. I cannot listen to Johnny croak his way through it and watch the sorrowful video without the waterworks coming loose.

"Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd. Rage, regret, sorrow, all encapsulated through the arrangement, the lyrics, and that evocative guitar at the end.

Boston, "Foreplay/Long Time," which is a rather eyebrow-raising title, but it's the best rock'n'roll intro to the song ever.

I don't know. I can't understand having a favorite song, or several favorite songs. Mine change constantly. Speaking of Johnny Cash's Hurt, how much better was this cover than the Pulp version?

I thought of this thread all weekend (while being the cabbie for family for two LONG shopping days)

Anyway I came up with my list after spending HOURS people watching on benches with other men tending to bags full of back to school and "got to have" women's clothing.

So, as many in this thread have stated, here is my list of favorite songs, again in no particular order:

Sympathy For The Devil by The Rolling Stones

What?
