Salem's Lot - Modern Film Studies -edited by Tony Earnshaw

Overall this is an excellent book bordering on greatness. The book is full of interviews with the main players behind and in front of the cameras. In some cases like producer - Richard Kobritz - they are interviewed twice. Those interviews are interesting because one is from the production time period and the other much more recent. Very interesting to read how interviewees thoughts have evolved - sometimes changing and sometimes not. Note earlier interviews are often reprints of ones that appeared in previous publications - often with material not included in the original publications.

The book is printed on thick glossy paper and is chock full of photos - most in colour, many of which I have never seen before. There is also a beautiful poster section - in glossy colour for international Salem's Lot posters. Another photo section compares on location shooting against present day Ferndale, California. Mostly recognizable except for the signature set - the Marsten house of course.

Finally there is a section containing excerpts from the script. Not sure why these excerpts were chosen but it seems that there are scene extensions that I assume were filmed but later trimmed. Nothing big was deleted, mostly character beats. Too bad the whole script could not have been included.

If you are a King fan, and especially if you count Salem's Lot as one of your favorite movies/books, then this is a definite buy.

My main quibble - I wish the book was larger overall in size ie coffee table sized to give the photos and posters more room to breathe.

Very glad I bought it!

Picking up Mr. Mercedes today at lunch. :cool2:

With a bit of luck, my mum will pick me up a copy of Mr Mercedes today. Tesco (uk) have it online for £9 so she is going to see if they're in store. Asda have it for £10 and amazon for £9 if anyone in the UK is looking for a good price.
damn, one of the world's best selling living authors, and not one supermarket in Liverpool sells his new release in their actual stores. You can bet your ass it would be a different story if a new dumb ass twilight book came out. Oh well, ordered it for 9 quid, free delivery in 2 - 5 days.

Don't know if I'll read it next though, might save it and finally dive into wind through the keyhole.

My copy of Mr Mercedes came yesterday, as I opened it the first thing I saw was the spine - I was getting ready to start fuming because it had thin greyish lines on it that looked like spine creases - until I took it out and realised that our version has a textured cover, and those thin lines are transparent from certain angles, and that they are rain drops.

lol, can't blame you for the first reaction, I'd be pissed to at the sight of that, more than likely I would have been phoning in a complaint before I noticed.

I got a good haul from a new flea market yesterday.

The Stephen King Companion
Wizard And Glass- with illustratons and the only DT book I was missng from my set.
The Reglators- hardcover, great condition... my old copy was beat-up and a smaller size.
Black House- hardcover, copy is like brand new.
Night Shift- hardcover, a newer Doubleday edition that has a great black and white cover.
Full Dark, No Stars- paperback, I've read it already but didn't own a copy.

The guy running the booth was super friendly and sold me all these books for $5.00- for less than his posted prices.
I was happy to add all these to my collection, and come home to shelve these books. It was time to play that game of Book-Tetris to fit in my new editions. Plus, getting new stuff prompts me to get rid of doubles or other (non-SK) books I know I will never read again... I don't have that many paperbacks anymore, these last couple years I've amassed some nice hardcovers.

I'm planning on building a proper book shelf sometime in the future. I admit that I'm not that handy, haven't really constructed anything before. Looking forward to working with my Dad on this one.

Just picked up the large paperback of Doctor Sleep at work today. We had it at 25% off, plus we had a 10% off coupon on any paperback books, plus my 15% off employee discount! Woohoo! Ended up costing $9.75 before tax!
I would absolutely LOVE to work in a bookstore, but it would probably have to be a used book store and not a chain. I would be utterly useless at selling e-readers!!

I actually work for a large retail chain (for the Northwest USA area anyway). If I worked in a used bookstore I would end up living out of my car because all of my funds would go towards book purchases!!!

I know that game, it's impossible for me now. With the addition of Mr Mercedes I know have to start stacking books lying down on top of others. Check out my joyland and Colorado kid. It looks a bit daft but it's either that or start separating them.
