Good things come to those who wait. I bought the special edition of IT a few years back and it is my favorite book in my collectionSo, I made a good choice? (Especially since it was half price and wasn't supposed to be.)

CD has some very beautiful books. I have several and am never disappointed. Thanks for the info and for the vote of confidence!
I had my mom in Canada send me a DVD of Stanley Kubrick's The Shining because the full length version is still banned in Germany (1 hour 55 minutes intead of 2 hrs 25 I think it is) and, guess what, the DVD is high tech safety coded not to play in Germany. I could change the matrix positioning in my computer but then I thought why. If that is the law (for whatever messed up reason that nobody except me seems to notice or care about) that is the law and I am an upstanding citizen.
If anyone knows the reason I would be interested.
I, personally, think it is so they could make even more money out of the buyers. But aren't there more then 2 regions,? thought there was at least three if not more geographical areas that each had its region. There are "Region 1" DVD's that are sold only in the US and Canada and will only play on DVD players sold in North America. There are "Region 2" DVD's that are only sold in other parts of the world. I believe the reason why, and I could be wrong on this, is because there are some movies that ARE banned in some European countries. Like the Hostel movies are banned altogether in the UK, I believe.
But, I could be wrong.

How about Africa and South America? Where do they fit in. And are Australia and its neighbors linked to this regions? Same as Europe? And Asia? Just saying i don't know. Only know enough not to get an region one DVD because then i can only see it on my computer, not on my TV.I believe so. Region 1 is USA/Canada and Region 2 is Europe. But I think you're right. It's to make more money.
Sometimes things like this just require that the field be filled, you could try a number of ********* (asterisks) see if that works?

Thanks Manxkitti for that information. What I am wondering about is the reason that a half hour of the film is censored and still, to this day, so strongly enforced. Censored scenes were much of the 'Tony conversations' and Wendy with the lady doctor. Its been a while since I watched the censored German version...I was looking for the reason forthe censorship. It cannot be due to the length when they still do not offer a full length version on DVD or someplace and block DVDs from other countries. What is the advantage at all. It does not hurt. It does not raise joy. It does not make a statement or protect. There is more than meets the eye here, I would venture to say. There are "Region 1" DVD's that are sold only in the US and Canada and will only play on DVD players sold in North America. The German folk poke fun at us Americans exposing so much violence on the film screen while making such a big deal about a little nipple or ass like anybody watching cares except those complaining it is all media hype and instigated gossip arranged by those involved to keep their names in the headlines and look like silly college sorority initiation rites. Now they do it too. Yes, maybe Blue Ray will save the day although I doubt it with a name like that.Go Blu-ray. The U.S. Blu-ray is region-free and will play anywhere in the world.
I told you all. You forgot about the VW beetle. Forgot the most dangerous part of my story. Call an exorcist.Mantor, this is not an issue of studio or governmental censorship or tampering. For private, yet hotly debated reasons, once THE SHINING migrated from U.S. theaters to European ones, Kubrick himself took the opportunity to cut the film down further. This may have been due to a) negative initial critical reviews in the U.S., b) a desire to "tighten up" the narrative, or c) as a way to pack more showings of the film into a given day (in other words, it may have been purely financially motivated). No one really knows Kubrick's thinking, but there is no ban on the film in either edit; ergo, both the long U.S. cut and the short UK/German one are region-free across the world on Blu-ray. Region coding, for both Blu-rays and DVDs, is in place to prevent countries foreign to the one that made a given film from seeing it before it's legitimate theatrical release. As such, it's a pretty foolish practice for catalog releases (i.e. those older than five years), but it's still a common one. Fortunately, Warner Bros. did right by the Blu-ray release and made it where everyone in the world can enjoy it. I assure you, you'll be in violation of no laws if you import the U.S. Blu-ray over there.

I am Mr. Cranky, formally 'Gus', 'Mark', or Triple H. I feel better that those guys at the pub can't check out what I'm saying on here. One of them is continually 'texting' people, wanting to know other people's business I presume. I think you sent me a photograph of yourself and your husband, so in a couple of days I'll take a picture of myself (not in my budgie smugglers) and show you what I look like.Good deal - I think up here in Canada it is going for about 22 - 25 bucks at the store.
