Today the mailman delivered a very nice 1st hardback of Black Market by James Patterson. It's in really nice condition, probably read once. It does have the Simon & Schuster remainder mark on the bottom of the pages but who's gonna see that when it's sitting on my shelf? DJ is in fine shape, too. Cost me all of $4.34 from thriftbooks.com . Oh, speaking of thriftbooks, they have changed their shipping rates. It used to be free shipping on all books, now it's .99 cents per book if your order is below $10 and free if it's $10 and over.

I noticed that a few days ago too!
It ain't bad, tho. I figure if you end up ordering three hardback books then the shipping is free, right? I've been pretty lucky with the books I've ordered thru them and have added some rather rare and obscure titles to my collection. I even have been able to get some titles of very limited runs of signed and numbered books there, like some Joe Lansdale titles.

Okay - I scored today at the used bookstore. We only have one in town and it isn't great, so this is pretty exciting for me. I found a hardcover BCE of 'Salem's Lot and first edition (and first printing) paperbacks of Carrie, Cujo and Pet Sematary (everything in good/VG condition)!

I usually don't talk to the owner 'cuz she is a grump, but I mentioned upon checkout that someone unloaded a lot of old SK books recently (I passed on a few first edition paperbacks that were in pretty bad shape). She told me a guy just brought them in today! Holy wow - I am not the girl with good luck or great timing, so I was incredibly happy and grateful! =D

Score morgan!!! Woohoo - I've been hoping you'd find something exciting in your not very exiting used bookstore!!!!
I'm going tomorrow. I'm on the hunt for some Irish chic lit - I love Marian Keyes and I'd also like to find the Agnes Brown series. I'm confident I'll find one or the other, maybe both. But it's kind of like Needful Things there when I go. I'd also like a candle snuffer.

I'm heading over there in just a bit - I've been seeing those emails but haven't opened them. I'm hoping for some short story anthologies.

=D

I just bought a paperback copy of Needful Things at the thrift store today for my mom. Not in great condition, but pretty good. She absolutely DESTROYS books anyway! ;-D

Good luck tomorrow!
I destroy them too. Break their spines, eat while I'm reading. I don't like to borrow books because I have to be so careful. My books are all very well worn.

I actually like this, I think it adds charm to a book. Such as my Bachmann books with its heavily worn spine, or my Christine with its sun damaged spine - I think it's meant to be the same colour as the front.

As nice as pristine books look, a collection just doesn't look right without a few tired old tatty books.

Beautifully worn! Mine are like that, with smears of mustard and fingerprints of Hot Fries on the inside.

My books are my babies, my loves, my preciouses.....I can't treat 'em rough. I like them to look like they did in the store when I'm done reading....:biggrin2:
I carry around my second (or third or fourth)-hand thrift store paperbacks in Ziploc baggies so I don't "hurt" them (even if they've suffered through a lot before I owned them!)! :a11:

Okay (deep breaths now) - I've been waiting a bit to post this. (I'm not sure why. Maybe I don't want to "jinx" my good fortune.) I ordered a hardcover of Joe Hill's Heart-Shaped Box. I already have a trade edition, paperback and BCE, but I've been trying for a 1st edition hardcover. Well, it arrived today (it was advertised as in VG condition) and it IS a first edition! I was so incredibly happy - it's my absolute favorite book of his.

But wait, there's more! I was so busy looking inside to see if I scored a first edition, I didn't notice the white decal sticker on the front of the book stating "Autographed Copy." WHAAAAAT??!! I opened it and there it was in blue ink "Joe Hill 3.13.07" !!!!!! I started bawling - I still can't believe it and am crying again. I have wanted a signed Stephen King book for so long and this is the very next best thing! AND in my favorite JH book (AND a first edition!)! I won't even blow your mind by telling you how little I paid for it because someone, somewhere wasn't paying attention.

Forgive me please for rambling, but I'm looking at this as a blessing from above. Not to give up hope and that I WILL get a signed SK book someday too! Thanks for sharing in my joy.

I found a hardcover BCE of Joe Hill's Heart-Shaped Box (good/VG condition) at the thrift store today for 50 cents! I now have a hoarding problem with this particular novel... :a11:
The first step is admitting you have a problem......
'Hello, my name is Morgan and I am a Heart-Shaped-Box-aholic.' ;;D don't forget about those foreign editions.....
