Latest thrifty acquisitions (used book stores and book sales)... Oldies but goodies.

Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward, Angel (1929), 1957 reprint & Heller's Catch-22 (1953), 1961 reprint - $4 each

Malcolm Lowry's classic Under the Volcano (1947), 1964 reprint & Eric Ambler's The Light of Day, 1962, 1st edition - $6 & $8

Unfinished Tales & Letters, BC dustjackets, 1st edition books, $4 each

Late 60's PB books about Tolkien - $3 each

Tolkien and the Silmarillion, UK PB, 1977 - $3

I found one at a thrift store... so now I am missing only 4. I need The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the Three , The Wastelands , and Wizard and Glass

Today I came home with an unopened dvd of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and a dvd of Grindhouse Presents Planet Terror. Got them both at Goodwill for $2.99 each!

Saturday the mailman delivered a nice copy of Blackwater: III The House by Michael McDowell (I'm going to get them all back in my collection!) and Wedding Night by Gary Devon. Gary Devon is a good writer. He only wrote four books and when the publishing crash happened back in the mid 90's, if your books didn't sell a gazillion copies you were dropped by the publisher. It's a shame, really. There were alot of good writers who have disappeared by the wayside..... Got both books from thriftbooks.com!

Today the mailman delivered a very nice hardback copy of The Pearl by John Steinbeck. It's in pretty decent condition for being amost 70 years old. It's a 'second printing before publication', which I still consider to be a first printing. Got it for a steal on Ebay!!

A first edition, unopened Cycle of the Werewolf for $2 (Previously, I just had the combo CotW/Silver Bullet screenplay book). Lamb (Christopher Moore)-$1. All three of the Divergent series for $1 each A brand new, unopened Redshirts (John Scalzi) -$1 In Defense of Food (Michael Pollan) $2. I've been looking for a copy of that one for a while, so I was very pleased All HB except for the CotW--that's a Signet TPB. I'm trying to find a place for another bookshelf--the Library book sale is coming up in late August, for hell's sake! That's like Christmas II at my house (lol)

Today the mailman delivered a copy of Blood Rubies by Axel Young (aka Michael McDowell- he wrote two books under this non-de-plume) and a very nice trade paperback copy of Hunters In The Snow by Tobias Wolff. The Wolff book was published by Picador, which I didn't realize was based in the UK and it's been re-titled from In The Garden Of North America Martyrs, which I already have in the US editions. That's okay tho- I like the cover so it's all good! Got them both from thriftbooks.com!

Found a perfectly preserved, slipcased 1973 Bantam paperback set of Hobbit and all three Rings books. Quarter book day at Goodwill, and the lady at the counter only charged me a quarter for the whole set.
