So I bought this off of ABA books: the third (and Last) installment in the series Michael Sheriff: The Shield- Island Intrigue by Preston Mac Adam (aka Michael McDowell). Paid $7 plus shipping but it's in MINT condition! Every other place that I could find it wanted at least $25 for it, so I guess I got a good deal. Bought it three days ago and today the mailman delivered it!
I started a McDowell book a while back but I can't remember the series. I remember it involved a flood. He is from Birmingham, Alabama.

That's the Blackwater series, which IMHO is his best novel. I really love his style or 'voice' if you will. He knows how to spin a good yarn! He's written under a few psuedonyms- Axel Young, Preston Mac Adam, Mike McCray, Nathan Aldyne. He wrote the screenplay for Beetlejuice!

Yes! Thank you. I wanted to order again through the library. Thanks for the pseudonyms, too. Yes, I seem to remember reading that fun tidbit. I wonder what his experience with Tim Burton was like? Burton has filmed on my turf in several movies. Big Fish and Edward Scissorhands being two.

Today I came home with a dvd of 2 Days In The Valley form Goodwill ($2.99), and from Value Village a bookclub edition of The Godfather ($1.99- I checked on ebay and even the bookclub editions are going for $20-$50!!!), and the Special Edition dvd of A Nightmare Before Christmas ($2.99) and a bluray of The Fly ($3.99) with Jeff Goldbloom. Not a bad haul for this week....

Speaking of Tabby books, am I the only one who has noticed The Trap is soooo easy to find in thrift shops and used bookstores (I see it everywhere) but none of her other books are? Did it have a larger printing or something?
I actually haven't seen many copies of any of her books in used bookstores or thrift stores. Come to think of it, there's slim pickings on Steve's books out here in Spokane, too. Don't know if that means that his readers here are hanging on to them or if there's not a big market for his novels out this way. I get the feeling that Spokane-ites don't do a lot of reading.....

I have never seen it around here!! If you find a good copy, pick it up and I'll pay you for it! :)
