I am a voluntary tutor teaching computer literacy, we go to various community centres to teach. The one I was at today had a load of books for sale including a good few king books. Today was about James herbert for me though. Got the lot for £2.50

3 omnibuses:
the rats trilogy (the rats, Lair, domain).
Ghosts of Sleath and '48.
Moon, shrine, the dark, fluke.

Others.

The rose madder will replace my paperback, which I will donate to the local library swap shop.
Very nice! Here in the US it's National Library Week. Do you have something like that in the UK?

A nice 1932 clothbound E.A. Poe collection, The Poems and Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde (still trying to establish a date on that one--the only date I can find in the book is 1896, but I don't think that can be right), and a copy of The Year of the Flood (Atwood)--I loaned my copy to someone and never got it back. $1/ea.

Just curious. Who's the publisher of your Wilde? Is it Modern Library?

It is. I finally nailed down a date: 1950 :) It's in near perfect condition, but no dust jacket. Nice little book! I have a weakness for old books.
That book in perfect condition could easily sell for about 25 bucks, maybe 50ish to a collector. Great find!
I just now saw the part about the missing dj. That makes a huge difference to a collector. That being said, I'm going to check if it was published with a dj.

So let's stick to the 20-25 buck neighborhood.
Still a great find and a wonderful book in its own right.

Sorry... I love researching books. Didn't mean to jump the gun.

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)

I don't think so. We have a few different special days to celebrate/encourage reading, especially for kids. A lot of schools tell kids to dress up as a character from a book or comic on world book day. This sadly gives stupid parents a chance to try to out do each other, and one kid turned up as Christian grey.

That's a cool idea! Peculiar parents aside, I bet kids here would love that.

So I watched the movie and looked thru the credits- Katey is not one of the Harlettes. She must have left right before this tour to start on her own Hollywood career. But, it was still a great movie- makes ya laugh and makes ya cry! Bette is really a true talent!

So here's the run-down for the last week:
'Black Berets' original paperbacks vol. 1-5 by 'Mike McCray' a.k.a. Michael McDowell. All from thriftbooks.com, all less than $5 each. I'm hoping to get the entire series (there are 13 in all) as I want to have another experience reading something by McDowell that I haven't read before.

Not exactly a thrift store/used bookstore find but...when I travel I like to leave a book or two behind at the hotel I'm staying, especially if the hotel has a bookcase; I'm doing this as part of bookcrossing....last weekend I got a book called The Taxidermist's Daughter by Kate Mosse, and left two other books by Anne Rice in its place. It sounds promising - an old house, ghosts, and taxidermy of course.
