I found a beautiful first edition copy of The Tommyknockers to replace my tattered version. It's pretty rare to find one of the older books in pristine condition like this. Even the dust jacket is perfect. I bought the book when it was released and that copy is toast. I usually take very good care of my books but I'm pretty sure I know why my copy of the The Tommyknockers is in such bad shape. I had a friend about the time The Tommyknockers was released that used to raid my books and he would give them back to me in horrible shape. He destroyed everything he touched. ;-D It was just his nature, he couldn't really help himself. He used to come over to the house and read the newspaper and I'd have to throw it out when he left because when he was done with it, nothing was in order anymore and it was too hard to piece it back together. ;-D

:swoon: The patron saint of used books must love you. You get the best finds.

I found a copy of "The Haunted Bookshop" by Christopher Morley at a thrift store. I loved it, though it isn't actually about a haunting.
I would buy that book for the title alone!

I didn't get around to thrifting last weekend. Will do better this weekend. Promise.

Found Childhoods End by Arthur C. Clarke. His big classic along with 2001. Written in 1953. You might think it is an ordinary alien invasion story but it has more to it. These aliens want to end poverty , war and hunger so whats not to like? But all is not what it seems. ........ Just cost me 5 crowns, about 70 cents in USmoney.

Picked up 2 paperbacks from a little book stand in our hospital reception.
"Pretty Girls" by Karin Slaughter - quite a few people have recommended this to me, so thought it would be daft to pass up for the princely sum of 30p!
The other is "Nemesis" by Asimov. I love science fiction movies, but the only sci-fi books I have read are the (rather excellent) DUNE series. Looking forward to trying something different!

Wow, that takes me right back to my childhood. Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton are about the only authors I even came close to trying to read. I was never a big reader though and would give up and play my atari.
30p? (That's about 30 cents isn't it?)
Wow - good deal
:):encouragement:
39 cents at time of posting.

I recently found a paperback copy of the exorcist in better condition and with better cover art than my very scruffy copy. I also got a hardback with no dust jacket of The Bad Place by Dean Koontz. I still haven't read any Koontz books but have 7 on my shelf.
