no specific treasures, but i was able to break 1000 books this weekend thanks to various used bookstores (shout out to mckays). i even managed to replace most of my recently stolen stephen king books (i lost most of the dark tower series via rental car burglary on a trip)
you are about 15 posts away from being unmoderated. Run and gun those suckers and you will be free! I will be here for a while longer and can get them through.

lol i've been wondering when that shuts off

I have offered many, many, many new people the opportunity to quickly become unmoderated. I remember back in the day waiting for a moderated post to go through so I could actually carry on a conversation with people in real time. It drove me nuts.

I have to laugh. Not ONE person I have offered to stick around and help them be unmoderated took me up on it. If I would have been given that opportunity, I would've been posting like a mad woman!. But, that's just me.

Maybe that's why I always offer that opportunity to new people who are close to getting there. I wrongly assume they are as anxious as I was. That's okay though. No worries. You will get there soon.

It wasn't exactly a thrift store or used book store, an amalgamation of antique kitch, rare musical instruments. .. It's an obscure store at twelfth st and Northern. The kind of place set within a run down stucco shopping plaza you pass every half mile. These places usually have a thrift store, a Latino market, a cell phone shop, a laptop repair shop, a barber, and an "Internet cafe" (those usually come and go within months- right along with the laptop stores-they're underground casinos and they get raided every other day in this city)
I digress: this one store, I've frequented because it's nearby and alluring. Today, I chatted with the owner, played the keyboard, took note of the number of creepy naked dolls for sale, the Steinbeck novel, the antique Fender, and something caught my eye- I bent down to grab it, turning to the owner with an old, rusty scyth in my hand,
"This is what I came for today!"
We had a laugh.
As I was leaving, another customer buying a pair of Birkenstocks said to the guy "every time I come here, I find exactly what I need! It's almost like (we said in unison) "Needful Things"
She looked at me with this huge, shocked smile on her face "yes, oh my God, by Stephen King! Have you read it?"
"Yes, I'm Naomi, by the way."
"Nice to meet you Naomi, I'm Holly!"
That's what happened at the "Vintage Resale" store TODAY.
That is trippy!

You're so kind that way. I think I tried to play games to get there. But I'm not good at them. So then I just starting PMing people and then it took forever. I'm an impatient sort of fool. You were still all happy clappy then.

that's interesting! I've never thought to count my books. I might do that. Sometime. Maybe.
I saw a funny thing inside a co-worker's book the other day. He was showing me something in it and he has an embosser that says "Stolen from the Library of (his name)" I thought that would be a very cool gift for a book lover such as all of us. Not necessarily the wording, though it suits him for sure. But an embosser would be superfine.

i was only able to because of my phone app called Libib, which you can scan books into a database via barcodes. which helps me not buy duplicates. it's a great app
