This story is one that I feel was masterfully crafted. From the first read, it has stuck with me and serves as a reminder of what the end of my life could be like. One minute you are enjoying a garden party and the next minute you may try to teach what's left of your eyes not to look. while this could not transfer to another medium, it serves is purpose in this collection beautifully.

Well the story itself seemed boring to me at first (spoiled teens and graduation day) but the way the story shifted and made all those everyday problems seem futile (like the main character not being good enough for her boyfriend becouse she's Polish or all that talk about her relationship and boring stuff) was surprising. The atom bomb hits you in the face when you don't expect it and the only complain i had is that Stephen King doesn't develop the short story after the bombs (becouse honestly that would be a great read) but well, that's not what this story was intended to be: Stephen King wanted to make you feel familiarized with this girl's personality and problems (even if the story is really short) so you could see how all their lifestyle and all the treads that hold our society are fragile and how a second in time can change everyone's life in future.

It was all too eerie. Upon reading it and realizing what it was the characters were witnessing... It gave me the chills. The fear of a nuclear attack has always weighed heavily upon my thoughts. I do hope, that the familiarity that surrounds me with concerns to this scenario is one from a past life experience, not a prophetic sense of a reality yet to come.

I bought Just After Sunset to fill the time on a weekend away. I was reading this story just after 1am. I was at the part where Scott was explaining the circumstances to Paula when I happen to look at the TV, which was providing background noise, only to see the footage of the 747 plow into the Trade Centre during a History Channel broadcast about Nostradamus. Freaked me right out but, of course, I kept reading. The next story is called Graduation Afternoon, sure enough as I look up from the end of that story. The same special about Nostradamus is on but this time there is a mushroom cloud on the screen just as I finish the story. Someone was trying to tell me something. I put down the book and went to bed. Too much of a coincidence for me.

a bit random, but a good short story

Steve definately has a knack for building up ordinary but deep characters in an ordinary situation, just to knock the wind out of you with a sudden change of pace. The story is short but it left me satisfied. Nobody has the talent to surprise and entertain you like Stephen King.
