I just finished Joyland. I liked it quite a bit. Going into it, I wasn't sure what to expect, and I can see why some may not have dug it (not much action), but for me, Stephen did what he so often does...he told a seamless story with amazing characters. I really cared for them, even the ones with bit parts. Great job once again, Sai King!

Call me a wuss or a woose (however you spell that) but I was actually crying near the end of Joyland.

It wasn't scary, but it also wasn't meant to be. I bought this book in the States the summer it came out.

Dr. Sleep, Joyland and The Wind Through the Keyhole are the only three new books I have of Sai King's.

(I actually still have a new copy of Dreamcatcher but that is from years ago and I got it through the book club).
I am looking forward to the two new ones coming out this year!:jammin:

joyland was an intense joy from paghe one to the last...mighty fine stuff, indeed...

...have never been able to finish 'faithful' (does that make me...unfaithful ?)...haven't really ever even thought much on picking it back up....

love DT1-4...have no love for DT 5-6-7

the only one i intently dislike is insomnia...took over two years to slog through that...thing

yet others love it....go figure

I will probably eventually try it again. But right now, I'm thoroughly enjoying The Book Theif, just found Koontz's Frankenstein (I lost it when things were put aside to make way for Christmas decorations and I found it yesterday while searching for something completely different.)

I have several other books waiting to be read, and a few begging to be reread.

Insomnia I loved the first time, but I cannot reread it.

The Stand, I read the original, then the uncut, then the uncut, then the uncut. Not sure how many times. But, so long ago, I don't remember much detail.

You should give it another go AnnaMarie, its short and easy to read, unlike some of his other works. Ive been fighting a losing battle with The Stand for ages now (please be gentle) :)
What part are you up to in the stand? I felt book one seemed to fly by, the outbreak was just fascinating for me, and the only parts of the first section that dragged for me were Frannie's parts. The meeting up and the setting up council sections did slow down for me, but it picked up again in the latter stages.

It's been a long time since I read T he Stand, but I recall finding those parts a bit slow too. However, not in a negative way. A story that size needs to change the pace occasionally.

Kind of like when Rick said to Carl "It's for you" and in the midst of the zombie invasion, while they don't know which of their friends are alive, or dead, or walking dead....there was laughter. A good story writer changes the pace.

I'm about 900 pages into The Stand, not long after Trashcan has arrived in Vegas. Its good but I just can't read loads of it all at once right now
I remember reading The Stand years and years ago and REALLY struggling with it. Re-read it last year and enjoyed it much much more. Some books are just like that.

It is so very rare for me to not finish a book. But I decided life is to short to keep reading one that I was so utterly board with.

So, I started the Book Thief. I had never heard of it, but just happened upon it. With two pages I was completely into it.

Don't hate me. I am still a fan of King's work. Just not this one book.
No worries. I was never a huge fan of Dolores Claiborne. I look at it like the God/Satan analogy (if you believe in one, you have to believe in the other) . . . if you have a favorite or favorites, there has to be a book you just don't care for.

It was a bit slow, and not my personal favourite of SK either, but I did enjoy it.

Hmm, having said that I guess I better pick a personal favourite. I think I know which one it is, but I have to mull over it for a while.

PS. I am thrilled to see the lack of hate on this forum. It is way too easy for too many to hide behind a keyboard, but then again - this board is moderated in ”real time”. I guess the hate is stopped by live firewalls (moderators). DS

You will become unmoderated once you reach 150 posts... so although we do keep an eye on the threads, much of the lack of vitriol is because people here are genuinely nice folks. There is a lot of respect among the members. :)

Ah, I see. My mistake. I thought the board was moderated ”live” all the time, no matter who posted. Thanks for clearing that out. Respect is one of my favourite words. If you (or anybody else) see me acting without it on this forum I will eat my sneakers. After which I will pull off my fingernails.

Well you know, it's probably half respectful patrons and half... "STEPHEN KING's Website" he could write you into all sorts of trouble.... :D
