I am currently reading The Dark Tower again, one after another from start to finish. I am closing in on finishing Wizard and Glass. For whatever reason it has me thinking "Which is my favorite book(s) of all time by Sai King??"

Well first off, I am excluding The Dark Tower entire series from the list below. IMO, it is best work by his own opinion (so I have read) and mine. So with that as the caveat, I am going to post my "Top 10" list of King's books.

I am interested in what are yours?

Here is my list. Note, that this is for today only, as I am sure that if I asked myself tomorrow it is likely to change :

1. 11/22/63 (I loved loved loved loved this book...)
2. The Talisman
3. Eyes of the Dragon
4. The Stand
5. The Green Mile
6. The Dead Zone
7. Insomnia
8. It
9. Under the Dome
10. Pet Sematary

I've refrained from picking a top ten or a bottom ten in the past as I've enjoyed all of the stories. So without further ado:
  • Duma Key
  • Lisey's Story
  • Doctor Sleep
  • The Green Mile
  • It
  • The Stand
  • Needful Things
  • The Tommyknockers
  • Dreamcatcher
  • Bag of Bones

I really enjoy threads like this. It's cool to see how different all our tastes are :) This is my list, and it's been this way for a while:

1. The Stand (Uncut)
2. The Shining
3. Needful Things
4. Misery
5. Dolores Claiborne
6. 11/22/63
7. Night Shift (minus "Jerusalem's Lot...I've never been able to dig that one)
8. Doctor Sleep
9. 'Salem's Lot
10. The Dead Zone/Rose Madder/DT series/Under the Dome/The Long Walk etc... ;)

Wasn't sure where to write so here I am. When I 1st came to the board, considering myself a long time fan, I was shocked to see just how many books I hadn't read...then shortly after deciding to remedy that I was excited to see just HOW MANY fresh and unread books I had paving my path ahead...including the Dark Tower books. I know, right? Book after book I have read...ignoring recommendations on other books to happily continue chewing through my massive list (with the sole exception of the newest Diana Gabaldon book). Today however, something a little sad happened. I plugged my kindle in to refill it and instead of finding the usual selection I found to my HORROR!....I am almost done! Now, there are bound to be a few here and there that I have missed and I will take a look somewhere for a list to cross check but even so...the end is drawing near and I am now to be on the 're-read' list as I wait for new releases. Its not the worst place to be...but still, I feel a little sad. Know what I mean?

Yar, I do... but thankfully, he's still churning them out.

Somewhere over the Rainbow
It
Cujo
Dolores Claiborne
Needful Things
Pet Semetary
Full Dark, No Stars
Misery
Thinner
Joyland
Lisey's Story

This is no particular order and it was difficult. I wish I could say all his short story collections, but right now "Full Dark, No Stars" is ahead of them all. I think my list would have been different years ago. It might change again....

Can't believe I didn't have
  • Desperation, on my list...someone flog me, draw blood if possible
  • Hearts in Atlantis...I first came to the board in aught-seven...having only read It, a favorite...Dreamcatcher...another favorite...and The Dark Tower 7, excluded here as in the OP so I followed suite...suit? Soo-it...followed Sue...yeah. Reminds me...of never-mind. Ummm. And I'd also read Hearts and Bones... Hearts is definitely a favorite...put it on the shelf with A Separate Peace, Lord of the Flies, and handful of others. It means so much to me.
  • this is why I don't like lists...heh! was just reading/glancing through None in the SC collection...and that story is like I haven't read it, ever...though I know I have, probably more than once. Nothing like cutting a hole in the ceiling and having cellulose drop on your face, awchoo awchoo. Don't ask. Don't tell.
