Hey, guys!
I came here for I was googling Mr. King's opinion on the current events in Ukraine, but this thread is a must so here I go
I'm a Ukrainian artist who deals mostly with macabre. You can check out my art here and here.
Here's a small autobiography I've written for the Weird Tales website:
Serhiy puffs a cloud of smoke and there are words floating there:
I was born in the very heart of Ukrainian countryside, in the ominous year of 1984. I was so busy learning this world that didn’t even notice when Chernobyl said ‘BOOM!!!’ But soon I felt the need to learn a few more words myself and clawed my way to Kyiv, to study English language and literature.
A misfit at school, I was a misfit at the university (being the only guy in the group of girls) and the curse followed me – regular working environment repulsed me. So, eventually, battered by all kinds of lousy jobs, I made a leap of faith and proclaimed myself an artist – a decision I’ll never regret.
Since then I’ve continued with my obsessions, but allowed them to consume me and put them to my services. I translate from English into Russian, Ukrainian; write articles, horror fiction using the same languages. Also I draw a lot and paint a little and that’s my most prolific and recognizable occupation.
I managed to squirm into books and magazines on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and plan to keep the pace.
I draw inspiration from books, music and movies. I’d be a different person without Clive Barker, John Carpenter, John Coulthart, W. H. Hodgson, Front Line Assembly, Stephen King, Nihei Tsutomu, David Cronenberg, Sidney Sime, KoRn, Thomas Ligotti, Ministry, William Gibson, Current 93, Dave McKean, Mamoru Oshii, Arthur Machen, David Bowie, Alan Moore, Virgil Finlay, W. S. Burroughs, Aleister Crowley, H. R. Giger, H. P. Lovecraft and Coil – all of them made me the person and artist I am now. Them and my dear parents – I love you.
The smoke dissipates and the speaker appears to be gone – only pictures remain.
Aaaaand here's something I did in 2005:
