I loved this book. It had so many levels to it and once you pick it up, you can't let go of it. I probably read about 60 books a year and rarely do I find one that puts me through so many emotions in a matter of one hour. But Mr. King always manages to do that with his writings.

After you finished Doctor Sleep, did you wonder what is going to happen to Abra? what about those members of the True Knot that are still out there? Maybe they'll survive and etc...

Oh, and just a small note ... I know we are all human and we love to put our opinions out there but maybe you can lock your criticism in one of these lock boxes that Danny kept in his head. If you don't like the book, don't read it. End of discussion

Hi!

How do you know you don't like the book if you don't read it?

Hi Miri, welcome to the boards!

I did come away from the book feeling like there was potentially more to the story. It could go either way, but so could most of SKs books. I wouldn't be surprised either way.

One thing about the SKMB that I've noticed so far. This is by far the most respectful board I've ever seen. People have differing opinions on books, characters, etc., but even when there are two totally differing opinions I've seen nothing but respectful dialogue. I don't know that people need to lock away their opinions if they don't like something, as long as they continue to be respectful of those who feel differently. Hang around a while, I think you'll see what I mean.

There's nothing wrong with criticism so long as it's respectful, and presented thoughtfully. I don't love all of King's works, I dislike aspects of certain stories -- such as UTD -- but always provide a reason why that isn't insulting to King or other members here. Differing opinions can create interesting discussions which encourage us to view things from a different perspective.

Anyhoo, I loved Doctor Sleep, from beginning to end. No criticism here!

Of course discussion is great but some people are really rude about it and that's what I meant.

I didn't say 'lock away their opinions' .. what I meant was useless criticism .. There is always more to the story in any book. But overall I really do feel that authors have enough criticism to read and hear from critics. The readers are like students to the on going learning process about the author. I don't know if you're getting what I'm saying and I'm sorry if you don't but yeah ... thx for replying : )

Hi Miri,

Yep, I do think I get what you are saying, and I totally agree with you. My comment was less about your post and more about the SKMB overall . . . basically, I don't see a lot of that on here, more respectful discussions on content that don't always agree. Sorry if my reply didn't come across exactly right.

If you get half way and you don't like it, you can just close it and that's it.

No way. No, no way. There have been so many books that I couldn't stand at first and then I loved the ending. And vice versa. If I start a book, I have to finish it no matter what, even if it takes five years. Closing a book half way through closes the door on so many opportunities.

I have no problem with people not liking a book or having a different opinions, but what drives me nuts is nitpicking. I have to agree that this book has SO many levels. And they all work. And yeah, I am kind of curious about what Abra gets up to. Hopefully Steve will too.

While I think it does happen around here (mean comments I mean) you have to expect it. It's a discussion board. We are here to discuss.
Haha well I'm just saying. I've never closed a book when I didn't like the beginning either. But I mean if you met your favorite author, and say didn't like his book would the first thing be HEY I DID NOT LIKE UR BOOK or just say I really admire your work

It's a cycle though. I feel like it can just keep going and going BUT I would LOVE another shiny book XD

Having met Stephen King, and thrown a book at him and yelled at him that it was rubbish, I think that's just fine.

Okay, that never happened and never would happen, and I do definitely see your point, but people who can't face criticism shouldn't put their work out there. I know I wouldn't! I couldn't handle it.

As readers we most definitely are allowed to have an opinion and express it. And I think this is the perfect forum because we are with people who are well-versed and are equally allowed to have an opinion.

I think it's very nice that you are trying to protect Mr. King. I really do. But I don't think he minds too much if not every Constant Reader doesn't love every page of every book. (Though, I may be wrong about that, who knows!) But he shouldn't. Because even the most talented people in the world (yeah, Mr. King, that's you!) can't please everyone all the time. That's what makes the world go 'round.

I do think, as you probably do as well, that any criticism should be thought out and kindly put.

I'd love another book too, as I kind of wondered what would happen
with the deserters from the Knot, and whether they would show up in another novel.
I feel like there is definitely more story to Dan and Abra. We can hope!

In the beginning I read how you said thrown a book and I was like WHAT?! HAHAHAHA. Of course yeah I get what you're saying. I am a writer myself and I am just starting to get my feet wet and like you said, authors shouldn't be scared of criticism. I am quite certain Stephen King isn't one who cares about those negative criticism too much because after he puts a work out there, it's the best he could offer at the time you know. It applies to everything we do actually. Anyways If I don't stop typing I'll keep going on and on and on ... haha but I agree with what you said as well :)
