Has anybody read this? I recently read (via audiobook) Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness. It was interesting and unlike anything I've ever read. I'm trying to decide if I want to go with Dream Cycle (since it's a 20 hour audio download I feel I'll be getting my money's worth) or book two of Game of Thrones, after I finish Mr. Mercedes of course.
SK has mentioned several times how Lovecraft influenced him, and that we writers should read widely.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Sorry I haven't posted much lately. Working 7 days most weeks takes a toll. I'm taking what amounts to a mental health day today.

What did you think of that last, "The Statement of Randolph Carter"? Warren & Carter...Warren down below the surface, Carter up above...Warren's frantic words God! If you could see what I'm seeing!...terrible--monstrous--unbelievable!" What? I can't tell you. Paged through my copy...I liked the first, the title story. But I wonder if that last threw me off the feed...Warren and those words. the story is redeemed at the end with the last couple lines, maybe...but I'm reminded of being teased as a kid by another kid...I've got a secret! or something like that...you can't see it, nanoo nor-oo!
I've only read this short collection from Lovecraft but I've two others Waking Up Screaming and The Horror in the Museum

My son is a massive Lovecraft fan and I have read a few of the stories he recommended to me. From the bits I have read, I'd say continue with the Dream Cycle.

I'm a Lovecraft fan too, and I can't believe I'm just now hearing about this book. I read At the Mountains of Madness, Herbert Reanimator (saw the movie too) and The Tomb (saw that movie too.)

When it comes to Lovecraft he is absolutely worth losing yourself in. A weird, weird world and a terrifying one but it is mainly good stories. Personally i cant read to many in a row. I have to digest them for a time before i continue.

Their is a collection you can order on amazon called "H.P Lovecraft - Tales" and it's basically a collection of I think 25 stories, all picked out and arranged by Peter Straub. It has several of my favorites in it. After that, you'll know whether you want to read further into Lovecraft.
