I hear ya! I was conflicted too-have a few hundred pages left of my Stand reread but decided to start Mr. Mercedes anyway. Now I feel disjointed-almost like I'm betraying Frannie, Stu, Nick, etc. I need to get a life.
You have a rich "inner life" - nothing wrong with making the little grey cells work morgan :peach:

Thanks to several posts on this thread, I decided to try something by Greg Iles, an author I have not read before. Everyone seems to be keen on "Natchez Burning", but I thought I would start with an earlier one, and checked "Spandau Phoenix" out from the library. Good, fast-paced story. I always like the mix of historical facts melded into fiction, and this one was spun in a very believeable way, which kept me thinking, "Well, who's to say this couldn't have happened??" I think I will be reading more by Iles, but the other book I checked out (at the same time) was "Swamplandia", by Karen Russell, another new author for me. I've just started with it, so will be back when I finish.
One of my favorite Iles books is Turning Angel. And even though I've read most of his books and really enjoyed them, Spandau Phoenix I couldn't get into. Started it briefly and put it aside for another time. Blood Memory is another I like.

I'm almost finished with The Empty Chair (Lincoln Rhyme book), and will definitely start Mr. Mercedes next.
I'm really enjoying Deaver's writing...I had read The Bone Collector several years ago, and then tried the second in the series, The Coffin Dancer, but didn't like it as well. This third one is much better, but still very hard to finish when Mr. King's book is sitting on my bedside table!

Just bought Stephen King's new book; I'm more than half-way done.
I'd be finished were it not for errands to be run.
I'm a Constant Reader and I gobble Stephen King...
Then I wait a month and start re-reading everything.

I have tried to pace myself before... It doesn't work.
(Plus, with sisters waiting, I don't want to be a jerk.)
So far I am loving it, although I knew I would.
Anything he's ever written has been really good.

One of my SOPs is that all books I'm reading get put on pause when Mr. King releases a new book. I'm about 75% of the way thru Mr. Mercedes. Fast paced book. The pace of the book does remind me of "Cell", and Mr. Mercedes is just as good as Cell was.
