.....no, seriously, my name is actually Rose - although Rose Madder is probably more suitable (so says my husband) :biggrin-new:

Anyways - hello everyone - I have been reading SK since I was 13, the first book I read was Cujo, followed by Carrie. Bit mental for a 13 year old - but well, I was bored, my parents bookcase beckoned..... I love reading, always have. And it went from there! I'm from the UK - one of the 'nutters' :icon_eek:

I look forward to each new book that comes out with great excitedness & anticipation, and then I'm re-reading the 'old' ones in between - but something that happens each time I finish a book - I think, wtf am I going to do when SK shuffles off this mortal coil? I mean, really, WTF am I going to do??!! Sorry, bit morbid, but don't tell me you haven't thought that at least once :biggrin2:

Question - who is the goddess in Rose Madder? Is she based on a particular Greek/Roman goddess? I've tried looking on interweb but no answers. I'm not talking about Wendy Yarrow/Dorcas, but the goddess in the rose madder chiton.

Answers appreciated :love_heart:

Great book - I really liked this one. As far as answering your question as to who the goddess is, I am afraid I would have to read it again :umm:

...Welcome Darlin'...and I may be full of condensed owl poo, but I sorta thought the "goddess" was based on Circe...

Oho! lets have a look what good old Wikipedia have to say on Circe:

" Circe is described as living in a mansion that stands in the middle of a clearing in a dense wood" - (we can just substitute 'mansion' for 'temple')

and even more interestingly:

"Her sister was Pasiphaë, the wife of King Minos and mother of the Minotaur.[1] Other accounts make her the daughter of Hecate, the goddess of witchcraft herself"

Hmmmm
