Can I ask if it was what Amber said that annoyed people, or the way she said it?
Reason I ask is, I like the Constant Reader part, & I admit that I have also missed (?) this. I have managed to find a fellow SK fan at work, and when we discovered this commonality, we were like "Constant Reader....oh yeah..." with a conspiratorial raise of the eyebrows & a nod of the head.
It is still however a very minor thing, and then I'm over it by the time the first paragraph ends
And I love that you all defendeth thine King so valiantly )
But if we are venting, then I'd like to add something that p*sses me right off. If I say to people that I read Stephen King & that he is my fave author (ever) (for ever ever), the usual response is a screwed up face with "Eeuw horror, blood & guts? Ooh no thanks" or something along those lines. What is wrong with these people? There is soooooooooo much more to his books than blood & guts!! Much much more! I love starting out with an idea in my head about what I think the book may be about & how I think the book is going to go.....& then getting to the end and I'm like F*****ing hell! How the hell did I end up at this conclusion, and what a journey! I am actually brain exhausted, & a bit stunned, its like I've actually gone through it myself & I need about a week to recover my braincells.

I would say yes... the manner it was conveyed. I'm sure lots of people would like to see the 'Dear Constant Reader', but most don't get quite so upset when it doesn't appear.Can I ask if it was what Amber said that annoyed people, or the way she said it?

We do not have a problem with folks expressing their views. We do have a lil problem when their first post is a complaint and a threat to stop reading Mr. King because of some minor issue. We will not be out with torches and pitchforks, though. We just get a bit annoyed.

Definitely the manner in which the post stated. Everyone has their own opinions, likes and dislikes, but this OP was put in a very negative way.
Darn it, I just had my pitchfork sharpened (it became pretty dull after the 'sully' thread) and my torch re-fueled! Now I'm not going to have any fun!!

I did that. I stopped reading his books for 7 whole years, I just didn't tell anybody about it. Well, I didn't go to his web site and tell anybody about it. I mentioned it on Good Reads, which was a gigantic mistake.
My reason for taking a leave of absence from his reading was personal, it had nothing to do with being a Constant Reader. In fact I didn't even realize he'd stopped doing that until I came here and decided to read the 21,000 messages I had and discovered that he no longer puts it there. I barely even remember when he DID do that.
But my reason for leaving really was personal and not some capricious act. It was even emotionally painful, which is why I stopped reading his books until 2012.
The one positive thing that came out of doing that is that I found other horror writers. Before this happened, Stephen King's books were the only ones I read, besides Edgar Allan Poe.
I'm glad I found other authors like Graham Masterton and Ramsey Campbell, and Anne Rice.
