Someone mentioned Rose Madder in another thread. That was on my tbr pile. Not connecting with Firestarter and Mr M is on backorder from our inde used bookstore. Only 17 pages in and I already hate Norman. This one is hitting very close to home.
Make room for more of that emotion, but Rose's perseverance will help combat it.

Ha ha, yeah, Tom Cullen says M-O-O-N spells everything. I love the floyd, and I have a few James Herbert books (not Moon though) but haven't read them yet, my Sister loved him though.
Have you read Ash? if you have read Haunted and the ghosts of sleath, this is about David Ash. It is the third in a trilogy. James Herbert chosen careen was art designer, so he called the shots on what went on the cover of his novels.

What am I reading? Rephrase that, what am I not reading - Mr Mercedes, The death trade by Jack Higgins, My Wicked, Wicked ways , by a rather intersting chappie of the golden age of Hollywood - Errol Flynn, Sisters, Olivia De Havilland and Joan Fontaine (who had a purported IQ 160) oh Yeah Robert Harris - an Officer and a spy. As I am attempting to type this, Meg, my father's dog is trying to get friendly with my arm. be scared, be very scared/:devilish:

Someone on the thread said that they thought Carthage read like Oates had read Gone Girl and thought. "I can do it better." I agree with that. Carthage is a superior book with a similar theme, despite Oates' sometimes stilted prose style. I read The Woman in Black yesterday & it was okay. This is one of the rare instances where I preferred the movie (though it's very different than the book). Now on Contagious-so far, it lags behind Infected (the first in the series) in quality.

I don't think it's a non-de-plume. I've seen his name for quite a number of years and have never heard that it's a fake name. I could be wrong tho....
If you like the alternative history, Try Dominion, by CJ Samson. Hitler has won the war, still fighting in Russia, Churchill i c7o and a part of the rebels, the British surrendered at Dunkirk. etc. must investigate that book. interesterd in History especially WWII and often wonder , what if.

But in the end i think Oates was right. She did do it beter. I was disappointed in the second half of Gone Girl. If that girl was so brilliant as the book says she wouldn't have get robbed in such an easy way. so unsuspecting. Is infected good? Is it a pandemia kind of thing? Have an absurd weakness for that kind of story. Well done they're a delight but i often even enjoy the bad ones even though i see that they are really bad.

I quite liked Infected. The author kept it nebulous whether the infection was something natural or something extraterrestrial; in the second book, that question is resolved. So far, it isn't as interesting as the first book, and has a lot more cliched characters & situations (without showing us the person inside the cliche, as Mr. King recently did in Mr. Mercedes). I'll probably finish this one, but if it desn't improve I likely won't seek out the third book in the series.

Can anyone help me with this author. I read (wha read, ~Booklover i am surprised you reading) a book relating to Graham Green (Brighton Rock, The Third man, travels with my aunt) he was intrepid traveller and a female writer decided to follow in his footstep and go everywhere he went. Cuba, etc. I can't think of the name of the writer and i am onl 25% sure, it was called travel without my aunt. can anyone tell me if i am right or what is the name.?

thanks

You are going to hate me for this, But i couldn't warm to Blaze. I have no sympathy for him. i tried to read it * 2 and just still couldn't warm to the character. :grumpy:

No hate on my end, many people seem to have that same opinion. I wouldn't say I ever warmed up to him either, but I enjoy it in an exploitation kind of way, he's not a sympathetic character to me but I enjoy watching somebody so slow try and handle this situation........ Like robbing the same convenience store multiple times, you know you shouldn't laugh because the guy's slow, but you can't help it

There is a book written by Richard Preston called the hot zone and if you think stephen king is horrifying this book is scary and the worst part everything is in true. it is called the hot zone, stephen wrote his opinion on the back and he was scared. It was about EBOLA they are 3 types and all are airborne, which means it can be passed through the air. Ebola zaire is the worst, (as it the other two weren't) Basicaly if you get it, your orifices bleed out, your intestines turn to jelly. this book is scary. if you are interested in that sort of thing read it. If you want to know more about ebola go to the CDC website. If you saw outbreak that is what this is about. It is a level 4 virus, when means if you work in the CDC you wear special equipment etc take a shower after.
