Alright, how many Lansdale fans are out there? I'm kind of late to the party. I've read The Thicket and Edge of Dark Water, and I have the collection Bleeding Shadows waiting for me.

Oh, I loves me some Lansdale!!!!!!!!!!! His 'Hap & Leonard' books are my most favorite- there's the mystery/thriller story that unfolds in front of you but there's also the relationship between Hap and Leonard that, to me, is the real charm of these books. I highly, highly recommend these books to everyone out there who enjoys crackling dialogue with great storylines. Lansdale pulls no punches- he hits you with his all each and every time. I've not read anything of his where I felt he was just spinning his wheels, standing by the mailbox, waiting for the mailman to deliver his check for writing a book and running to the bank to deposit it. he's done thrillers, horror, westerns, sci-fi (the drive-in book) and does them very well. The three books that you have read of his are three newer ones and I haven't been able to get them yet for my collection, but I will.
I've heard of him and look forward to your thoughts.
For some reason I've been avoiding horror stories . . .I guess I needed a break. I'm growing tired of the girly-reads --good reads, but I just need a lil stank . . . I'm starting to miss the horror!

Joe's got some stinky-stank just waiting for you to pick up! Try his The Nightrunners. He's got tons of anthologies out there, too. The man has written alot of short stories!
Wow, I just checked the title list in one of his books that I have and there's more books he's written that I haven't read or even heard about! I got to get on the ball here!
His Drive In books have just been released for Kindle -- check those out. His Hap & Leonard books are fantastic. I've met him a number of times and he's a real character. He tells the best stories -- both in his books and in person.
It really threw me off that he likes to use first person narrative, complete with bad grammar to fit the character telling the tale, but I got use to that pretty fast. I think it really strenghtens the story.
He has one hell of a dry sense of humour too! I've caught myself chuckling more than once, especially with The Thicket.

Oh yeahm Joe's got a wicked, wicked sense of humor! It's one of the things I love about his writing- all doom and gloom and then you find yourself busting out laughing. He's a pretty nice guy- I met him at the World Horror Convention in Seattle back in the early 90's. Got him to sign some books for me.
Do yourself a favour & read The Bottoms, A Fine Dark Line & Sunset & Sawdust.
Lansdale is a hell of a writer - he's got that SK thing going on, when you fall in love (or in hate) with characters.
When you want to bump into them and then run away as fast as you can.
When you want to see the things he's seen.
When you want to go wherever he's been.
Yep. SK fans are Lansdale fans too.

Just received in the mail a mint copy of Joe's Act Of Love published by Subterranean Press. Got it at a great price! Looks like it has a new (2012 when the book was published) short story in it at the end (which I believe continues the story in the novel and an interview with Joe (his ownself!). I already own the first limited edition of this title that was published by Cemetary Dance way back in 1992. Looks like it's going to be re-read time.....
Read Joe's The Ape Man's Brother last night. Great book, lots of great dialogue (as usual) and lots of fun!
Iam late to the party (again!)..have never heard of Joe R Lansdale. Can anyone recommend which book I should read first?
My favorite Lansdale novels---and the ones I would recommend first---are Sunset and Sawdust and Cold in July. (A movie version of the latter premiered at Sundance a few weeks ago.)

Just finished Joe's collection Bumper Crop. It's got some of his coolest stories in it. Some of them are only two or three pages long, but they sure pack a wallop!
I've really got to get moving and buy some more Lansdale. Looks like there is a Deadwood Dick (I think that's what he's called) novella coming this fall.
I've got a signed/limited copy of Waltz Of Shadows sitting in my TBR pile screaming READ ME!!!
