A dissenting opinion here - I've got so used to horror films doing this as a matter of course, throwing in the obligatory last minute shock twist to tell you that you may have thought it was all over but it's not, heh heh, you just wait until the baddie comes back in the sequel, that I was actually somewhat disappointed to see my favourite author pull the same overused trick.

I'm also used to horror films using the "Ha! and you thought the monster was dead and you were safe but think again" endings but... I like them :) I would really be disappointed if there were no more crocodiles in Lake Placid lol.

I was happy with Mr Mercedes' ending with or without sequels.

Maybe King is planning on using the old Silence of the Lambs trick where the bad guy is consulted in helping to catch another bad guy. The ending also reminded me a bit of the start of Joe Hill's NOS4aU with Charlie Manx waking in the ICU. What I really need to know is what happened to that severed finger?
