Hopefully Lifetime can do right by the story without removing the menace. I don't think anything needs to be graphically shown onscreen to get the menacing aspects right.
I think it's tricky, but not too much so, to create an impression, using lights and camera angles and music, and all the elements at the filmmakers' disposal, of horror without showing one act of violence or one drop of blood.

Who here knows that in the first Jurassic Park movie you never see one person get killed? Not outright see it, it's all done off screen.

Hitchcock did it numerous times.
Psycho was what I was thinking as I wrote the above. Hitch's motives included restrictions in place agh the time, but they also included his taste in what's art and what's gratuitous.

Well, there's the lawyer on the toilet scene. But otherwise, you're right as far as truly graphic violence was concerned.

He is killed behind bushes, not in plain view.

No, remember T-rex?
Leans down, bites him, lifts him off of toilet, begins shaking him back and forth... Graphic.
I might have to see it again. I remember him getting pulled off of the toilet seat and taken up into the air, but I don't think you actually see him getting torn apart, just pieces of him falling here and there. I didn't use spoilers here because I think everyone in the known universe has seen this movie. ;-D

You don't see him being torn apart, but to be lifted by a Tyrannosaur in that way is graphic. Still, you're correct that the movie doesn't engage in gratuitous violence otherwise, despite what's implied.

I'm just glad that they didn't have a ride in the theme park based on this scene. Can you imagine little kiddies lining up to sit in a collapsable toilet and be pulled into the air by a mechanical T-Rex?? :highly_amused:

Probably a good cure for constipation.
I do remember when I saw it in the theater and it was over and I was walking out to my car in the parking lot, it was a beautiful sunny day and I kept looking around over the tops of the trees to make sure there weren't any dinos hiding there. What a thrill ride it was, eh?

One of my fave movie rides of all. My personal all time fave action scene of all time are the frames included within when the power goes out and the Nissan falls into the tree.

I liked Big Driver very much. In fact, I loved all the stories in FDNS, I don't think any of them was weak... Just saw a couple of pictures from the movie on the Internet somewhere, seems to be interesting. I will be looking forward to seeing the movie!

I think he won the Bram Stoker Award for Full Dark No Stars - it is a very good collection of stories
