Have you read Hannibal? I know some SKMBers aren't too fond of it (right, kingricefan ?! =D) because the ending is far fetched, but Harris's writing and use of language is spectacular. I think it might be one of SK's recommended reads at the end of On Writing (I keep forgetting to check!!).
You are correct. I loved Hannibal until the ending. I'm not the only one either. Clarice would never, ever do what she does in the end. Never. Ever. Nevereverneverever!

Just came home with 1st hardback printings of The Bookman's Promise by John Dunning and The Davinci Code by Dan Brown. Can't believe I found an actual 1st printing of TDC! I know it's not everyone's favorite novel but I figured I'll give it a try. If it stinks, then so be it. I also found a 6th hardback printing of The Long Valley by John Steinbeck. For a book that was published way back in the '60's and is an ex-library copy it sure is in good condition. Paid all of $.49 for it!! ;-D

In the process of buying 1st Edition 1st printings paperbacks of all of SK's work. cheap and fun to do! Let me know if anyone wants to "donate" to my cause. I am having trouble finding a copy of THE STand and The Stand Complete and Uncut.

Just bought a first paperback of CArrie and Salems Lot $3 each! It was awesome!

Better start hitting the Goodwill's in your area. Most paperbacks go for around $.69 or so. I've never paid more than a dollar for a paperback at Goodwill.

The Goodwill here is lame. I've only found one "score" there in dozens of visits! It seems as if most of the thrift stores in this area are managed by hipsters who either snag the good stuff before it hits the floor or jack the price up on anything worthwhile. I used to love thrifting-not so much anymore...

The first printing first edition of Firestarter is a REALLY hard one to find. I have both the black and white cover ones after a lot of searching.

How do you know if you have a first edition paperback? Do you look for a "1" like in the hardcovers?
Yes, the book has to have the '1' in the number line. The reason that the true 1st printing's of the Firestarter paperback are so hard to find is because most of them ended up being part of the 'boxed' set that included The Dead Zone. I have both the black and white cover versions and it took me 20+ years of haunting used book stores and thrift stores to even find those!! Also, the true 1st printing has on the cover at the top, directly underneath the big red '1', 'From The Author Of The Dead Zone' instead of 'FromThe Author Of The Dead Zone And Cujo'. If you know this it will save you some time, so you won't have to open each copy you run across to look for the '1' on the number line.
Another one that's kind of hard to find with the #1 in the number line is the paperback of Christine with the photo of the car on it which would be the movie tie-in version. Most of them start with a #2. Something else to keep in mind in your travels.

I love the Goodwills around here, there's 3 within 15 minutes of me in different directions. I'm always scoring! The one in the university town always has the best books, but they also price em individually (whereas the others do the Paperbacks = $X Hardbacks = $Y pricing method). Try and check the goodies every few weeks. :lol2:
