Rave On: The biography of Buddy Holly - Phillip Norman (this was really emotional, I know the ending but cried anyways. People just really really loved that man!)

I Slept with Joey Ramone: A Family Memoir - Mickey Leigh (also a very emotional ending, it is by his younger brother)
Those are two most recent an I highly recommend them.

ive only read footballers autobiographies, Alan Shearer, Bobby Robson, Gazza, Kevin Keegan (yes im a Newcastle fan haha). I have read a book about Stephen King written by someone else so it wasnt an official one (does he have an official autobiography?) , and i would love to read Eminems if he done one.

He doesn't have an official autobiography as such, but "on writing" is supposed to be semi biographical.

Sir Bobby's would be interesting, I'd like to try that one. My mate has gazza's, doesn't really appeal to me though, I'd really only want to read Everton bio's, and only a select few at that.

Who's autobiographies have you guys read, are reading, or would reccomend?

I have only ever read one by a blue stand up comedian called Roy "Chubby" Brown - Common as Muck, it was very insightful and funny. I have a few on my Kobo but have not yet read them including:

Neil Young - Waging Heavy Peace
Slash - Slash
Ozzy Osbourne - I am Ozzy

My Brother has (and therefore I can borrow :) ) a few I wouldn't mind reading:

Lee Evans - Life Of Lee (British comedian)
Ronnie Wood - Ronnie
David Jason - My Life (British TV legend)
I will certainly get Ozzy's autobiography, thanks for the tip!

My favorite is Felix Yussupov's Lost Splendor. It can actually be read online here: Lost Splendor - Felix Yussupov - Introduction
But I first found it in a used book store, a Norwegian translation. I was fascinated, hence my nick ;)

Don't think I have ever read an autobiography. Read a few semi-autobiographical stuff, but not a straight-up autobiography. I have Marilyn Manson's autobiography on my Kindle and have read a few pages, but that might be the only one I own.

I think I just prefer to read about real people in magazines or on websites and keep my books strictly fictional.

I haven't read many autobiographies; I tend to read more biographies. Most of the autobiographies I've read have been music-related: Alice Cooper's Golf Monster, David Lee Roth's Crazy from the Heat, Motley Crue's The Dirt, etc.

One non-music autobiography I read and loved was Kirk Douglas's The Ragman's Son. If you're a fan of early Hollywood, there's a ton of great stories in that.

Hunter
I also read more biographies, One of the faves is "The Life and Death of Andy Warhol."

Night - Eli Wiesel (About his life and survival in a Nazi concentration camp)

Scar Tissue - Anthony Kiedis

Marilyn: Her Life In Her Own Words - Marilyn Monroe - Photographer George Barris compiled quotes from Marilyn Monroe to create this biography. This is the closest you will get to an autobiography from Marilyn Monroe

Tough Sh*t - Kevin Smith
Maryilyn Monroe "In her Own Words" was made into an HBO special recently. Did you see that? It has actors reading her quotes from her diary. Good stuff. She was a very depressed and complicated woman who seems to struggle with herself.

Thanks, I missed that one. I'll have to check it out. The book was sad. The reader gets a glimpse into the person behind the icon.

Life Itself by Roger Ebert. What a remarkable man! He accomplished much more in his ten last years, while fighting cancer and undergoing repeated surgery, than I have done in my entire life as an adult.

I had never heard of him until he basically p*ssed on the still warm grave of Ryan Dunn. As stupid as what Ryan did was, that was out of order.

Hmm! I read a biography of Warhol, but not sure who wrote it. It was a loooong time ago.

Not sure if I mentioned earlier! a biography of Judy Garland and an autobiography of Liza Minelli.

And watched Carrie Fisher's autobiographical Wishful Drinking, then read it.

That was probably not his finest moment. Being an ex-alcoholic, or even dying of cancer, doesn't give you any special rights to judge others. Like Ryan Dunn, he can no longer speak for himself, but he did explain how he was thinking on his blog, and admitted that he "was probably too quick to tweet. That was unseemly.".

I haven't read it, but I saw a documentary about her which contained a lot of private photage and things that she recorded at home during her therapy. She was indeed depressed and troubled, even at the height of her career. And her therapist made things worse for her, as I remember.

Malcolm X - It's an interesting and honest look into black culture and the dynamics of racial relations during the Civil Rights movement. I plan on reading it again because it has been almost twenty years. I also plan on reading Manning Marable's version which is said to debunk aspects of the autobiography.

Mick Foley's 'Have a Nice Day' - An interesting look at one of wrestling's most likeable wrestlers who had a hard journey making it to the top. It also covers one of the most brutal matches from 1998.
Malcolm X is my next read. Have it sitting here waiting.
