Outside of the USA the books are published in the language of said country (except England and Australia). You can't buy a King book at the local bookstore in the Netherlands that is published in English, can you? We have a few members from other countries that are always saying that they have to wait for a year or so until a new King book is interpreted into their native language and therefore cannot read the book until then.

I can buy Dr. Sleep in Dutch or English at any major bookstore. Smaller bookstores only have the Dutch version. I guess they are very fast in translating here :D Like The Wind through the Keyhole, it was available almost right after USA release.

Good to know! Thanks. Does the English edition cost more than the Dutch? I have always wondered about that.

You won't know until you try. They might like to see that there is a conversation going on here on the SKMB about this particular topic and they might want to have a contest themselves if they see that there is an interest in it. Print out the replies here and mail it off to them with a suggestion that they have a contest.

Mailing them as we speak...

Check this out: A dutch Dr. Sleep, paperback, costs € 19,95. A dutch Dr. Sleep, hardcover, costs € 29,95... An ENGLISH Dr. Sleep, Hardcover, costs.... € 18,99 :D So the original hardcover is less expensive than the translated paperback.

Well, the publisher has got to cover the cost of the interpreter, right? I see you're in Rotterdam? Is that in Sweden?

It's because there are restrictions about sending a book that has been published in the US to any area outside the US and this is a Scribner book.

That sounds shoddy.

That being said, I do realize the contest is not being run by you, but rather by the publisher. The Canadian publisher is having a contest....for a Silverbirch Award winning book. for anyone not familiar, that's elementary school reading level.

No that's in the Netherlands, shame on you!!!! :p We were the only city bombed by the Germans back in WW2 (Only dutch city, obviously) and one of the biggests ports in the world.
I remember studying about Rotterdam in school georgraphy. I remember we remembered it in tests by saying about this girl who would not share her candy. I hope she will rot her damn teeth.

This pisses me off to no end. Every time, EVERY #&(&#%(&@#(% TIME, we get the shaft. American companies take our money very happily when we buy their toys, games, cars, appliances, books, software... But when there is something to be won, a lottery, a sweepstakes, a giveaway, it's always, always, ALWAYS US residents only. And when you ask them why, they will tell you that their 'legal department' is 'looking in to' a way to include other countries... WHAT? Like there is a law here that forbids American companies to include Dutch citizens in a sweepstakes... Please. Just be honest and say 'Hey, we like your cash and all, but we're not going to give you anything for free unless you're a good old 'Murican like me'.

There's a good reason there are no international giveaways. Each country has it's own laws regarding giveaways, lotteries, contests, etc. Neither Scribner nor 'Muricans set laws for countries outside the U.S.

There are no laws preventing me from sending you a prize I might win though as it would be considered a gift. I'll let you know if I win anything :) Don't get your hopes up though, I never win anything lol

and yet, the iPad I won from an American organization was given to a Canadian. And the book my sister won was also sent from an American company to a Canadian.
