I might be way off base here, but I think this message board is a fairly good representation of Stephen King and his many endeavors. He doesn’t limit himself only to his writing. He is often publicly open and expresses (in written form, in interviews and in speeches) his likes and dislikes, his trials and tribulations, his love of baseball, movies, worthy causes, music and much more. And he isn’t afraid to tackle socially hot topics such as activism, taxes, and even his wretched politics. Why shouldn’t he allow the same from fans of his works?

The message board just seems to be another extension of his many ventures. A work in progress story with an interactive flowchart, where the reader can immerse themselves and contribute to the subplots that interest them. The message board has an extensive cast of characters, major and minor, good and evil, serious and goofballs. It's got long-time members, hit-and-runners, some only remembered in hearts and minds, and some apparently on a walkabout of sorts at the current time. The entire message board is a good read all in all and a place that definitely sparks interest and emotions. Just like a good book!

Unfortunately many new members and casual readers don’t yet realize this message board is new and there was an old message board chocked full of discussions and opinions geared primarily to his written works, and adaptations made from them.

This message board is run and controlled pretty well by the benevolent overlord Ms. Mod and her "mini onions." It’s a place to give fans the opportunity to see the inner working of the Stephen King universe that isn’t available anywhere else, and a place to openly express their opinions -- on just about everything. It really does provide a pleasant atmosphere where fans can become part of the Stephen King story, or something.

Huge fan of SK for over 20 years. I get pimply goosebumps when he releases a new book. Why do some of the 'fans' here waste our time, his time, or his publisher's time with post's which have nothing to do with his work? There is an infinite number of sites where you can post your ignorant ideas about god, social issues, or who won on last night's Bachelor. Please, let's not sully this forum with such nonesense.

You're gonna love our Justin Bieber threads. :biggrin2:

You know, I lurked on this board quite a while before I jumped in as a member (the old board, I mean). I was reading Dark Tower and really living in my head and needed some people who understood. So I only read the posts and was content for a while - you're all so smart and quick witted - what could I possibly have to add to that?

Then someone started a discussion about Pope Francis - and I so wanted to talk about that too - Catholics and Popes and Stephen King -oh my! Not that I didn't want to talk about Sai King's incredible writing - that's a given. But to talk about the writing and the reading and the Pope and breasts and the weather and to join in the Ka-Tet Cantina, and Oh! the feeling of finally finding some friends who understand me. My husband loves me to the bones and he will listen at length to me, but try explaining the Dark Tower to someone who hasn't read Stephen King.

So, I believe we all started here for the reading and the writing discussions and found something so all encompassing we stay for so much more.

Lol. Love the responses. You guts believe the author reads this ****? Haha, god, I split a gut reading those responees. Keep on truckin' on 'fans'. I weep for your simple souls, your cheesie riddles 3 Wolf Moon t-shirts and dating profiles using Chatum Tanning or Megan Fox photo's as your own. Haha, thank you all for verifying my theory. Ignorance Is bliss, isn't it? You do realize you are all fodder for the rest of us?!

I joined the board because I wanted to find a place where I can discuss Stephen King and his work. Over the years I've
been on this board, I have found great friends. Some of my friends I have even met face to face or talked with via phone. Yes
I just love this board and to talk about something else too make this board even better. I am myself a big fan of SK and his work.
Welcome around hope you enjoy to be here.

We've had a message board in one form or another since late 1998 or early 1999 (I'd have to go back through far too many files than I want to do to verify) but the one constant through all its incarnations has been the atmosphere of community and in my opinion is a reflection of who Stephen is in real life and the characters he creates in his fictional work. As he's said many times, to be an effective writer you must create characters the readers care about. This message board has endured because we are a community that cares about its members--even through disagreements. Stephen's work brought each of you here but those who have stayed, or left for a while and returned, have done so because of the interactions and sense of belonging--a ka tet for those who have read The Dark Tower--that goes beyond the fan discussions. If the OP is genuinely curious about what it is this Board is about, explanations have been attempted but to the members here I would say it's not something that has to be defended to those who don't "get" it because they haven't experienced it first-hand and seem to want to disparage what it is. I'd like to encourage members to share their feelings of what the Board has meant to them but let's not get into personal attacks. Let's take the higher road.

It means people who GET it when my I start babbling if someone mentions Stephen King books. People who understand the depth of my joy in reading the books. People who don't cringe and say things like "You read that horror crap?" You guys understand that I not only read it but I love it. And it's not crap or horror but unless you are one of us you just don't get it. I thank everyone here for making me feel welcome and, um, normal.:) How was that Ms. Mod?

Well said Ms Mod. And as I have the highest regard for you and your opinion, I shall do just that!

Nowhere else would I find such a goofy, loveable, intelligent, group of people who are bound by the love of the works of the master, Stephen King.

This response (or should I say "responees" - that's French, right?) sounds vaguely familiar. Had it been typed in lavender, with many references to Lacuna Coil song lyrics, I might think that one of our former members was back from his virtual Mantua.

All of us guts do believe that Stephen King drops in now and then. Perhaps we are simple, in our cheesie Wolf Moon tees and our questions of circumcision and underwear; our simple souls weep at your disapproval. Please forgive us. We are not worthy.
