I need to watch this movie. I just found out Max von Sydow played Leland Gaunt. The book was quite good and probably the movie won't be as good but I think I should watch this some time. Max plays a great 'bad guy'

I have always found him to be so intriguing and I felt he played Leland so very well. I also used to think of (our beloved) J.D. as Leland

Reaally? I thought Leland Gaunt was an evil man - in the end did he not more or less turn into Satan and fly away on a horse (or something equally strange?) J.D. (although I never knew him) seemed to be a kind person from what I have read of his posts

He was . . .but he had his moments . . .

I've been here a long, long time . . .was here before J.D.

Max von Sydow was a great casting choice for Leland Gaunt. I really enjoy diabolic movie characters played well. It was one of my all time favorite movie adaptations of a Stephen King character. Would love to see a sequel made with von Sydow, but they would have to hurry it along. What is Max, like about 100 now?

(Don't know which I like more, Leland Guant or Dick Cheney. ;))

I thought he looked a lot like JD too!

JD would definitely have been the first to admit that like everybody else on the planet, he was no Angel... :) he had a very impish side to him as well.

I was going to watch it tonite for the Halloween Marathon. Worth it?
Just re read the book.

Its between that and this 1944 movie called "The Uninvited" - Ray Milland, Ruth Hussey (whomever they are) The description calls it a superb movie......
I just watched some truly bad movie called "the Clown Killers" with John Candy from 1976 on-line. Wow

Needful Things is in my top 5 King adaptations. I like it more than The Green Mile, honestly. Great cast, great scenes, great score. A lot of the novel is left out (he said sadly) but it retains the dark humor feel of the written word. Definitely worth watching at least once.

THE movie adaptations have (as a whole) been so bad that I stopped even looking for them for a long time. This year is the first time I knew there were even movies of Dreamcatcher, Needful Things, and Desperation. If I was join to watch one, it would probably be Needful things, because of the cast.

I would definitely recommend it, although I didn't like it that they took out Ace.
