One of my least favourite SK books. I felt it was a bit formulaic, and (for me) there was never very much at stake emotionally, which is unusual for his books.

This statement saddens me. And I do not understand how you could not invest emotionally in the book. End of the World situation, people not knowing whether their families are alive, phone zombie or dead?

I like "Cell" a lot. The fast pace at the beginning was nice... sort of a jawdropper in the first couple pages. I like the idea of the human part of our humanity being erased and starting with such an animalistic reboot. Fun to consider on a sunshiney day. I felt a bit bad for the flocks when they were more confused about what they had lost than concerned with violence.

The ending was a letdown and almost entirely predictable.

Credit is due where it is owed, however, as King manages to instill a sense of trademark carnage in the beginning that is awfully fun to read. It's the same kind of sensory overload that The Stand conveyed when Captain Tripps was in full swing (Which is to say awesome!).

It tends to be a bit...challenged with pacing however. The characters are content to do nothing and a lot of it feels like unnecessary filler. The part where the man who won the Ebay auction in real life to have a character in the book, the one who blew himself up, was so unbearably phoned in.

I don't really believe anyone could be considered crazy for disliking the novel. I'm not a huge fan of it, bit then I'm not a huge fan of his more recent titles.

I loved this book, i also don't have a Mobile (cell) phone. but like steve i am crashing into pressure. Steve's imagination is vast, he is creating brillant stories about cell phones or using technology - the internet to change the method of books. think the Plant. Ms. Mod, is there any chance of him finishing it. I subscribed to the downloads(1.8 euro or something) and if he finishes it i will continue to pay. it was an interesting premise. Got it and then no more. most people(who aren't as big as fans as us, just downloaded it maybe read, maybe didn't) as a Famous charaqcter said 'maybe si, maybe no.

Ms. Mod won't be back in until Tuesday, but she has mentioned that Stephen currently has no plans to finish The Plant.
