I watched the Dead Zone for the first time this previous Monday or Tuesday. I was eager to see it for two reasons-Stephen King adaptation, and, equally as important, CHRISTOPHER WALKEN. I felt that all in all, it was an amazing film. I have not read the book, but based off of the film, I'd say I've got some more reading to get to! :)
Your thoughts?

The book was very good - I read it when it first came out and then recently (in the last couple of years). I also really like Christopher Walken, so I hope that some day I do get to see the Dead Zone on film.

I have seen and loved the movie! And I am getting this book in the mail this week from a friend on here! Can't wait to read it.

We need to find that on DVD and send it to you - it really is very good! Since I haven't read the book yet, I can't speak for whether it's a good adaption but it was mysterious and disturbing and believable and felt just like reading a King novel. And Christopher Walken is so great in it.

Oh good - glad they did not mess up a good story! (it sounds like it was all believable) - maybe I can find it on Youtube!

neesy...this, for me, ranks up there with 'stand by me' and 'misery' as amongst the very best SK adaptions/movies...

a pure pleasure from beginning to end...

of course...THE BOOK IS BETTER... but this is one spiffy movie.

for my money, david cronenbergs best early movie...
I will have to go check it out for sure now - and of course the book is better! (it always is) :rugby::smug::nerd:

hmmm - David Cronenberg, eh? Now it sounds even better! =D

One of the better book-to-film transfers in the King Canon.

A little meaningless trivia to add to the conversation:

The screenwriter wanted to shoot a different ending, where John doesn't Die and instead has psychic flashes of the Castle Rock Killer escaping from prison, setting up a sequel. Cronenburg threatened to walk if they didn't revise it.

Look forward to it, it's pretty faithful.

Great adaption and Walken is still creepy, just in a different way. Also it just has a overall strong feeling of dread. Just a dark film really.

I disagree. I just watched it again after re-reading the novel. It's a typical SK adaption, the movie itself isn't bad, but it's a terrible adaptation, kinda like the Shining. They left out or changed way too much.
They completely left out the whole Wheel of Fortune thing, which I thought was a big element to what was happening. Heck the whole scene at the county fair was kinda pointless, since they just rode a roller coaster. They even completely changed the accident. No cab or drag racers. And also in the book, Sarah had nothing to do with Stillson. ANd that's just scratching the surface.

I guess I have to agree with you on that, I should not of said great adaption, but just that its a good movie on its own.
