Mercedes and revival. looks like the kings experts are here in this forum and I would rather here from you than the bookstore clerks. does it matter at all on what book I pick up next. im half way thru the stand right now. I noticed that king has some series out there. any suggestions on which ones to read first. early works. early then late then back, movies ones then non movie, sci fi then horror ect. etc. ANY SUGESSTIONS GREATLY APPRECIATED. im sure you guys will come up with some great ways to read king. p.s. if you read my newbie I apologize for how naïve I was. but now I am here. better late than never

Try Hearts in Atlantis...Bag of Bones. Hearts was possibly the first book I read where I wanted to thank the author for his work...an Afterword in Bones led me here. I thoroughly enjoyed the stories about Roland...did not know when I purchased a copy of The Gunslinger that it was only the first of many, but when I got on the plane with Eddie I was hooked. And a late bloomer. Some/many would argue that last point, few would argue with the others.

I've read the books as they were published. Regarding books that are considered "series"- The Green Mile comes to mind. Originally published on a monthly basis- serial format. Now available in one book form. It was fun to anxiously await each new installment.
The Dark Tower-- personally I prefer to call it a journey, not a series. 7 original books and an added one recently to fit between book 4 and 5. (a stand alone book and re visit of old friends). Here you are lucky to have all the book available. Those of us who read as published had some "long" waits between books.

I would answer that since you're obviously already a serious fan it doesn't matter which book you select next. As a first book I recommend The Dead Zone, but you're not such a case. From this point all I'm able to do is tell you which my personal favorites are, which include The Dark Tower series which amounts to eight books. Bag of Bones is fantastic, imho, as is Misery, Lisey's Story, Desperation, The Regulators, no way to stop me right now. The Stand is arguably the favorite of more CRs (Constant Readers, like you) than any other single volume.

If I may make a suggestion, read slowly. I am so envious of new readers that they get to start this journey fresh and savor every book. As a matter of fact, I'm so jealous that I stopped reading King just before Doctor Sleep. Now I'll have a small stack of books to ever so slowly work my way through and savor. yum yum. Seriously, I cant wait to read these. Just got Revival for Christmas and tossed it onto the stack, to be read IN ORDER after a few more books (that'll take about six months or so, right?). Duma Key was excellent.

What did u

mean by pollination. Thanks
I think the word "pollination" is a good description of what sK does in many stories. Certain aspects of existing stories he sometimes leaves traces of in a new one, not inappropriately because those traces, or seeds if you will, effect the new story in new ways.

...my comment was meant to sum up the feel I get when reading King all these years...he "self-fertilizes" novels and stories, with-as Frank said-"seeds" from other parts of his Universe...we also call them "Easter Eggs"...hidden treasures that point to other places in his writings, and sometimes point forward to as yet unreleased material, which only become obvious upon release of said material...
