I'm on page 227 (paperback) and I got so bored I put my book up while on the exercise bike and watched the news instead at the gym. I'm just not really feeling these characters.....

I'm at the point where they are at the stadium filling with the zombies and tried to kill them, just no flow in this story to me. Maybe it's because I keep skipping over the gory detail!

not to worry, I would never burn a book! I got this one at the thrift store ($1.00 paperback) - I had to start skimming (again) so maybe I can finish this this week and move on to a collection of short stories I haven't read. I read 3 stories from "Everything's Eventual" but seems by the talk on here, people really like SK's novellas, "Full Dark, No Stars". (I believe I have read all the other collections...)

It's not a bad novel, but I think the problem you may be having with it -- assuming you may be thinking like me -- is that it didn't adhere to the zombie genre as much as it should have. Experimenting with zombies is great for a short story, or maybe a longer, 10,000-word story, but the addition of the psychic/ghost stuff for a novel just didn't work for me. Still, there's good stuff in the book.

Maybe that is why I liked it - I don't follow this 'zombie genre' that you speak of, plus I always like a bit of psychic/ghost stuff in a story.

I struggled with it because I felt the characters were shallow.
They weren't as fleshed out as King's characters usually are.
I tend to get so engrossed by a story that you care about the world and the people that inhabit it, I found myself to be particularly unfussed if the main characters got mullered or not with CELL. That for me was where it fell down.
