Just finished Salem's Lot the other night. I loved it! I can definitely see this one staying in my Top 5-10 King novels as I work through the library.

One of my favorite aspects of this novel is how King paints such an amazing picture in describing the town itself, including the huge cast of characters which make up the population. While reading this novel, it felt like I was driving the streets of Salem's Lot, checking in on old friends and neighbors. I felt the same way while reading Under the Dome. I've never come across another writer who can make me feel totally immersed in the setting of a story like SK can. The guy continues to amaze me more and more with each novel I read.

I was very intrigued by Father Callahan. Probably my favorite character to read about. I was really rooting for him throughout the novel as he questioned his faith over and over. The scene where he finally gives in to Barlow was heartbreaking for me. I feel like this character has helped inspire many of the similar priest characters in horror movies of the last 30+ years.

There were so many terrifying scenes in this novel. One of my favorites was early on when Crockett's employees are making a delivery to the Marsten House, ultimately going down to the basement. You could feel their fear jumping off the page. Great scene.

A wonderful cast of characters, a super creepy villain, and countless terrifying scenes add up to one great horror novel.

Rating: 9/10

Callahan plays a very important role in the last three Dark Tower novels. You ain't seen the last of him as he crept out of the Lot on that bus.....
