Carpenter, because he directed my numero uno favourite film "The Thing", and many others I like, including, off the top of my head, "Big Trouble in Little China", "Halloween" and "Assault on Precinct 13".

Little known fact: I actually have an altar in my bedroom dedicated to "The Thing". ;;D

Other directors I would put on my Top Directors list are: Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch, Alfred Hitchcock, Lucio Fulci, Paul Verhoeven, George Romero, George Miller, Lloyd Kaufman, Tobe Hooper and, of course, David Cronenberg.

I'm also rather interested in the films of Herzog and Godard (well, I'm interested in ALL films, but those two especially pique my interest), but they aren't exactly easy to get a hold of over here.

Have you seen Carpenter's Masters of Horror ep called Cigarette Burns? Possibly the best thing I've ever seen by him, and I'm a huge fan of Halloween, Big Trouble, and The Thing.

Short list! Hadda go with Kubrick--hell, he's a tough one for ANY list. Ya got Lolita/Clockwork/Spartacus/2001/Full Metal and on and on.

But Carpenter ain't no slouch.

Here's my faves (ones I can think of off the top o me skull):

Orson Welles.
John Huston
Fritz Lang
Howard Hawks
William Wyler
James Whale
Michael Curtiz
Nicholas Ray
Terry Gilliam
Brian DePalma
Marty Scorcese
F.W. Murnau
Tarantino
Werner Herzog

I better just stop right there or I'll be here all night.

I don't really have a favorite director, but from that list Carpenter I think is the best. Really enjoyed The Fog.

Skimom, when you list DelToro as a favorite, I'm assuming it isn't for Pacific Rim. Great concept, terrible film. Embarrassing, really.
